nav dvds

I picked up the toyota/lexus nav/dvd and it doesn't work in my 04. I don't know if it can be done, but, has anybody tried copying the map and poi files ( whichever they may be) and needed files on the oem dvd and burning them on a dbl sided dvd? Just asking.
