2005 XLR Raven Black
Hey Guys, Very Cool site! I'm a 2005 XLR Raven Black Rider! I'm starting the process on getting some GROWL out my tail pipes, and need the Muffler size specs, so I dont have to crawl under my ride! This has been the hardest info to get online!! Also, If anyone has suggestions on what I should get for Mufflers, and if I need them... "Resonators"...that'd be great! Like every other guy on earth I want a Beefy Low Toned Growl with some HP enhancement on top...But first I need the Muffler dimensions...I went ass backwards, and bought some 3" Gibson tips a few months ago. So, Ill need (2)-2.5" to 3" dual reducers I'm guessing...Im far from a wrencher. Wish I was, but Im counting on you guys for all that crazy tech knowledge. I'm a Creative Mo' Fo' Tho! And Im a thinker... Do you think I need to get some resonators upstream? Are the stock ones good enough to get where I want to go here? Ive kinda narrowed my search down to the Magnaflows but Im up for any suggestions......but with ought hearing the mufflers/resonators/tips "Live"...I really need you all to get me to the Throaty Deep Growl land...what else do I need? Clamps, rubber grommets? I'm sure I'm forgetting things...Also where should I buy my parts??? Thanks a MILLION! Standing by...Rock

Welcome aboard.
Like several other members here, I opted for the Corsa cat-back system which works right out of the box. I have one on my 2006 XLR-V series and it sounds wonderful. Just The right amount of growl when you’re in it and perfectly burbling when you’re not.
I did have mine welded as opposed to using the clamps that came with the kit as I feel it’s just more secure that way.

If you got a good Corvette shop in your area, I'd check them out. Or a muffler shop that is known for custom exhaust systems. They'll take care of the proper measurements for you and if they're worth anything can make a system to what you're wanting

Thanks Fellas!

Thanks for your input guys...Greatly appreciated! Does anyone have the "Stock" Muffler dimensions ? At this point I'm a little obsessed with getting the numbers...I'd Love to "STOP" Obsessing about it:-) I'm telling you, I have looked high and low for the "Muff" dimensions, and came up with squat. The Corsa looks Gorgeous! First time I've taken a look at it...Glad I found this site.

You need to find a 'car guy' that cares enough to crawl under his car to get those dimensions......which is a tall order 'cause if he/she is a Car Guy then likely they no longer HAVE stock mufflers :dunno: . I am currently in Florida, my car has a Corsa system but there is a good chance I kept my stock system, I will have to check upstairs in the shop. I will be home likely by Thursday or Friday, if you have not got your answer by then PM me and I will go look.

As for the Corsa: easy bolt in system, no need for extreme mechanical ability. Carries a fairly stiff price tag but super quality stuff. Check Ebay etc. All years of XLR's fit the same system when a base car; only the V's have a different system. Corsa's sound nice when you are just driving around, have an sweet aggressive sound when you take off with a touch of 'extra peddle' and a head turning-wicked sound when you 'stand on it' on it - but still have a reasonable sound inside with the top up when cruising down the highway. There are other systems out there that have way more sound but resonate/drone inside badly when you are cruising down the highway)

Enjoy your new ride!

What particular dimensions are you looking for? We replaced the stock exhaust on my base with Corsa (which I can't recommend enough - installer said it was the highest quality he'd ever seen) but still have the original exhaust. If you let me know what you're looking for, and can be a little patient (;)), I can try to get some measurements. Not only am I not on here every day, but the exhaust isn't readily accessible, however I'm happy to help anyone who'll be understanding!

I'll also throw out there's NO drone with the Corsa -- the advertising is true -- on the other hand, we put Billy Boat Fusion exhaust on our XLR-V, which may have more of the growl you're looking for since it sounds like a race car when you take off but also has a little bit of drone to my ear. We got the Corsa from Summit Racing; shop around, sometimes you can get free shipping. There are also some folks on here who have made there own exhaust, try doing a site search on Google to find any you're interested in.

Enjoy your ride!

A point of note:
I have an 06 V and run the same Corsa Kit on it that is spec’d for the Base XLR. I spoke to the R&D folks at Corsa and they agreed the dimensions are identical in both. The stock V system uses the same vacuum actuated valves in the resonators to regulate flow used in the Vette. The only reason they did not specifically approve it for the V Series is because they didn’t test it on one.
In either case, once a new exhaust system and CAI are installed someone with a Tech2 device is going to need to reprogram the ECM so you are not constantly throwing codes.

New Guy

My XLR has a Billy Boat exhaust which a previous owner installed. It has a remote control to actuate the bypass valve. It sounds very aggressive in “loud mode” and almost normal in “quiet mode” and adds 10 to 30 horse power from what I have read (not sure about this). They make exhaust just for the XLR. Worth a look.

Welcome!
Love the Corsa Exhaust too. When I purchased my XLR in March of 2011 it was already installed .... I thank the previous owner every time I hear the Corsa sound for installing for me. Love the no drone cruising until I want too make some HP noise! LOL
