Yippee ! Cadillac wants to go head to head with BMW.

Isn't that what they said when they built the Cimarron? And let's not forget the Catera.........or the Allante.

I can see they are spending that government money the same way they always have.

No innovation - just chase the existing market hoping to pick up a few sales along the way. Want proof? Cimarron, Catera, Allante, etc.

Ford's domestic sales are going through the roof. They were one of the first to hit the huge market in China.

Most of the European makers (BMW, MB) got into the Chinese market early and are seeing their highest profits there.

GM is finally in China, with higher sales and profits than here in the states.

GM needs to focus their energy on what they do best............and some day they might figure that out. And pay us all back.

It is very nice to see so many jobs being created after the massive layoffs. Having a smaller Cadillac model that will hopefully blow the doors off of a BMW is not bad either!!

The pricing of cars is based on many variables one being the cost of labor to build it. Ford is making these cars in mexico paying very little labor and turning around and selling them back to Americans at AN EXTREME INFLATED PRICE. As far as I am concerned why spend money on a car thats not worth the value of the sale???? Americans need to wake up and stop buying these products that are made in other cheap labor Countries either force them to come back to America or go broke. Just my opinion!!!!

Stick with that thought, pay basic nut-turners $54 bucks an hour and GM will once again find itself broke.

Also keep in mind when GM first took the bailout and built their recovery plan, it called for a significant off-shore labor shift.

They only slowed that down when their government pals raised an eyebrow over that detail.

My guess is they will move ahead once the dust settles.

Just my opinion, but GM should have already failed. Tax dollars saved their butts, but the fact remains they cannot compete in a global market with their current plan.

This was all hidden from the American people but the cat is out of the bag and they got caught. GM had to give up 61% of its stock why didnt Ford???? Ford is getting more money than GM recieved Why no 61% stock control for America????

The difference is that GM has been paying the money back to the government. "Welfare families" do not. Additionally, the assembly line workers for GM make $28 an hour not $54. If you factor in vacation time, sick time, health insurance, retirement contributions you still don't come up with $54.

Look this was done in such way as to make it appear the government wasnt involved but let there be no doubt in your mind they were bailed out. They didnt have to give up any stock to the American people they got no-to low- interest loans from the government with a 25 year payback. Americans bailed them out they went to Mexico build there cars brought them back here to sale them at extremely inflated prices and put an enormious amount of American workers on the streets not to mention the extreme adverse effect on the economy. Whats right about this absolutely shameful to this Country and to every American worker who sacraficed there livelyhood and loyalty to this Company that they (worker) made into what it is today.

The organizations outlined in your link are the same loaning agencies many small (and large) companies utilize. I don't see the correlation between GM's situation where they were turned down by all other sources, finally turning to the US Taxpayer with their lame, "we fail and so will America" argument.

The earlier link you posted is a document from 2008 which was submitted along with one from GM and one from Chrysler, all requested by Congress to outline what was needed to create a sustainable auto manufacturing climate. Congress spent quite a bit of time insulting the Big Three leaders, then denied them any support.

GM and Chrysler crawled back later and received funding from Obama through the TARP Program monies. Ford chose to find other funding options to maintain their sustainability - something almost every globally-positioned company does on a regular basis, including GM.

They borrow development capital from those willing to risk investing in the new product, new line, new technology, etc. That is just good business, and they make great investment opportunities. The problem with GM is investors dried up when they continued to make the same mistakes over and over again.

As I've said a dozen times on here, both GM and Chrysler should have been allowed to fail.

They would have been bought up, re-tooled and came back stronger than before with a leaner, more productive workforce piloted by a management team with the ability to make them profitable again.

As for jobs going out of the country, GM has more outside manufacturing facilities than Ford, with a more non-american employees on their global payroll.

Once they get a few billion tax payer dollars back into Obama's hands, they will quietly execute thier options to re-tool their Mexican manufacturing plants and they will begin pumping out Mexican-built GM cars.

BTW you forgot the 2 Buick plants being built in China with GM (aka US) money. It's so the Chinese can run around in buicks......or tanks.
