STEREO UPGRADE ? 2005 XLR

I have a stock 2005 XLR, is it possible to upgrade with the modern day double din, touchscreen stereos/bluetooth etc, if anyone has done or had this done, is it straight forward with wiring harnesses etc, my car stereo shop was uncertain what may be required? any info is appreciated but can only assume others have upgraded stereo system?
