Greetings from a newbie to this group. I'm sure you have seen the latest edition of Autoweek magazine's retrospective article on the XLR. I am approaching retirement and I have been thinking about what type of vehicle I am going to reward myself for 45+ years of (mostly) gainful employment. Thank you Autoweek! I believe a Raven Black 2007 Base XLR will be the vehicle I ride off into the sunset. I would appreciate any advice regarding what to look for during the pursuit. Thank you!

Well let me chime in here. 1 st make sure to check it from head to toe. Or if you can't do that then request a car fax report. Also check to see if it has a salvage title if it's been in a water prone area of flooding. Check the "brains" of the car. That's located in the left side of the trunk under the cardboard carpeted area. The seats, go through the gears and make sure they aren't too loose. But a car fax should tell you everything. Just make sure that there is a certified xlr tech if you have a personal mechanic check the car over around in your area. Most of all the roof. Make sure it goes up and down with out hesitation. Check all of the hoses. The top has about 30 sensors that make the top, tonneau cover and trunk work.

Thanks for the information. I have the luxury of time in my search for an XLR. I expect I will investigate many leads before making my selection. As an NCRS member, and a former owner of a few of the other cars made in Bowling Green, I appreciate the value of these forums and the knowledge of the owners and fans of the marque. Cheers.

Some good info

.The 'brains' that hawkeye speaks of is just one of many on the XLR. The folding top module is the one located in the left trunk area. There are four sensors in the top which send info on where the top is at a specific time during raising or lowering. It something is not correct, these sensors stop the process to prevent damage. They can however over time become out of alignment and/or go bad.
For more information on all the modules see this link:

There is a wealth of information on this site. The more time you have to read and peruse this site, the better informed you will be when it comes time to make your purchase. Good luck in your quest.

There was a recent post by Lextoy on his search for his XLR. I think he did a really great job of getting all of the information and thoroughly going over his XLR top to bottom. CCclark had the best advice, use this forum to download the owners manual, find every knob and switch... I'll let you read his post. Also on this post are some of the items that Lextoy found and had the Audi dealer fix before leaving the lot.

Good luck in your search.
