Help! Volant air intake

I've installed a Magne Flow cat back system,on my 07,and thinking about installing a Volant air intake system.The new Magn Flow Exhaust has really helped the preformance .Has anyone installed a Volant system,that helped achieve,even better preformance? Tommy10 The Bug Killer

I put in a Volant Cold Air Intake over the summer - I also installed a Corsa Performance exhaust. Felt a little extra with the Cold Air Intake - even more with the Corsa. Excellent fuel economy improvements too.

I have a 2008 XLR with a Volant Cold Air intake and I am trading for a 2008 and will transer the intake over. I do feel I got a little ummpph at the pedal with it as well as the standard exhaust sounds much better until I can budget for a better exhaust.

Hi Dave: Just the man I need to talk to. I installed the Corsa system last year, before Bobfest. I remember it running a bit odd on the first start up back then.....and then no problem. I don't remember but we may have had to clear a code back then too.

We just installed a Volant intake a half hour ago: fired up the car and it was coughing and skipping something terrible, then it started to run better. (check engine light is now on) Shut it off and then fired it up again 30 seconds later, ran a bit rough then smoothed out. Just test drove it, fired up & fine ran fine. I had run down the road a mile so I turned it around and when I returned I stood on it , seemed to be doing fine then as it kick into 4th (I believe 4th) it balked hard: like someone turned off the fuel for a split second...then ok again. Steve is on his way to our sons shop to check and clear the code.

Anyway Dave: I am wondering if you had and simular response when you did your mods: it sounds like you installed your parts in the opposite order I did. I plan on seeing someone to tune it to get the best performance out of these upgrades but am wondering what went on with your car and did any of the problems re-occur for you?

When I did my CAI, I had no issues. I've never had my car run rough - from day one. I have heard that some people have had issues with the air sensors, when installing the CAI. I think taking your car to a tuner and have it adjusted with the CAI in place should take care of your problem. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck.

Hey Sandy,

When I did my CAI, I had no issues. I've never had my car run rough - from day one. I have heard that some people have had issues with the air sensors, when installing the CAI. I think taking your car to a tuner and have it adjusted with the CAI in place should take care of your problem. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck.

As soon as we cleared the codes (MAF code) the check engine light came back on so Steve un-installed the intake until we can get it tuned. He does not want me driving around with a check engine light on: if something else goes wrong I will likely not realize there is a problem until it may be too late........good point. SO now I will be pushy until we get that arranged so I can re-install the Volant!

I installed the Volant this week with only one minor problem. The supplied hose connector for the PCV was 1/2" to 1/2" and my PCV hose is 3/8" I haven't been able to find a 1/2 to 3/8 connector yet.

I don't know how much power was added with the intake but it sounds meaner without the input resonator.

4th gear hesitation

On the track from 3rd to 4th had a short lag in the shift,found out I needed a new fuel pump.Go to the track in two weeks will find out if it gets better times,only has 33,700 miles on the car.

I've never had any problems when putting on CAI on either the '04 XLR or the '06 XLR-V. Your problem is a bit puzzling. The only thing that comes to mind; did you put the MAF in correctly?? I'm guessing it only goes in one way, but if it was possible, that may be the problem. Did you write down the codes before you cleared them, I can look them up in the service manuals if it is of any help. The MAF could also be dirty and needs to be cleaned or replaced.

We are starting to wonder if the sensor somehow got damaged in the transfer. As I say, we un-installed the Volant and at first is seemend ok but today the check engine light came on again with the stock intake. I will take it to the dealer this week to have them check things out: I need to see them about another minor issue anyway and want to look into extended warranty too.

Did you maybe over oil the filters. That will make the mass air go crazy. You can clean it with a aerosol type of cleaner. Don't touch the actual sensor with hands.

The filters were pre-oiled and certainly do not seem heavily oiled at all. I have been running K&N's in the stock air boxes all along and never had an 'oil' problem. Cleaning the sensor certainly is a good idea though!
