So the driver's lamp socket was busted and I pulled that white insert out to grab the part number and look it up on GM Parts Direct... I pull it off, and it has a Pentagon on it, and a part number of 56005077. I do a quick google and SURE ENOUGH... it pulls up a part from a 94-99 Jeep, interior courtesy lamp left... are you kidding me?!?!?!?!

'01 Grand Cherokee to be specific...

Looks just like it... but upside down...

On the flip side, I'm sure there are lots of Jeep owners giving themselves mad props for having XLR lamp housings!

I guess so... so does anyone have any knowledge of this part? I have a few questions..

1) can you get a replacement through GM? Best place/price to get them?
2) I also need the smoked cover for the driver's side, but it has no part number on the broken one... anyone have that info?
3) how do you change a frickin bulb in these? I tried to change the passenger bulb but gave up trying to figure it out... it appears there's a little light-blue holder for the bulb that screws into this thing, but if you twist it looks (like it seems you need to), it falls INTO the door, not pulls OUT of the door (and I need a new one of the blue holders for the bulb also for my driver side).

Thanks :)

Here's a link with good parts visual detail and part numbers. It sounds like you want item 24:

http://www.compnine.com/index.php?u...1337174374&capuid=1&majorgroup=14&grouptype=B

They list it at $58.55

Here's where you can get it for $23.46:

The shop manual has the procedure for removing the lamp housing and there's a TSB with more disassembly info as well, since many were being damaged during repairs. The TSB is on this site somewhere. If you can't find it, I'll dig a little deeper and see what I can come up with --unless someone beats me to it.

You would probably benefit from reading the following thread :

If I read you correctly, the lamp cover in your car for the door mounted courtesy lamp is broken. Can't help you with the lens cover, but the lamps that were installed in my 05 were of course, incandescent. I wanted to change them out for LEDs. I found that if you are careful, you can remove the entire housing. The lamp assembly was a PC168 integral lamp/socket assembly. They twist a quarter turn to remove, from outside of the housing.

The lights in the trunk were the same, but the socket and lamp were separate assemblies that used a 168 lamp. I found that you can purchase the twist-in adapter from most auto parts stores like AutoZone, Advance or O'Reillys. It is p/n 85835 from Dorman Products. Their website is www.DormanProducts.com. You can find them on the various auto part store sites by searching for p/n 85835.

This will allow you to use 168 or 194 lamps, or to find and use an LED if you want to make that change.

Hope this helps!
