Welcome to the Cadillac XLR Forums!

XLR history & information discussion thread

Hope you can include some of the advertising. Always interesting plus everyone from the plant manager to guys who worked on the line at BG said the XLR wasn't marketed properly.

I added some advertising pieces that I had. I hope you like them. I will look for more information that I know I have @ home...somewhere.:)

What an excellent thread, Bruce. You and I have had lots of these types of discussions, but I SUCK at remembering names and small facts like this; so its nice to be able to read it, re-read it and let it SINK IN my brain.

VERY interesting stuff! :rocker:

Great idea Bruce. You might also include that our famous retractible roof was built by Car Top Systems (CTS) in a plant also located in BG. These are the same guys that build the retractible tops for Mercedes and others. I was in there looking around after the seminar at the NCH on Friday and found their name all over the mechanisim. I believe CTS is a European company.

Nav system was built by Denso of Japan

Differential by Getrag of Germany

Because of the short run of the car, literature, documentation, and promotional items are scarce. I had a good discussion with Bruce today and we came up with the idea that these items should be collected and archived. The museum in BG is a natural place for the "vault". Bruce, in your discussions with the museum, please plant the idea and gauge their interest. Just as the corvette is a part of Bowling Green history, the XLR is too.

Seems like the best fit.

I'm still new here, so this might already exist, but I think it would be helpful to have one picture of each color that the XLR was made. I hear about the NM, but have never seen a picture of it (or if I did, I didn't recognize it).

could use member pictures if no commercially available ones exist.

I've never seen one in person.

It was cool to see schooley's Alpine White XLR when we were at Biltmore House. My dealer had a Passion Red XLR in for service the last time that Crimson Pearl was there.

Wow, am I losing it or did someone nuke our conversation from last night? Anyway, thanks for all the good info and advice.

:dunno::dunno: Don't know where it went... thought maybe it got moved to your "paint color" thread under the "XLR V" forum. Checked and it wasn't there...
Cadillac Tech or Rob... where did it go???

The passenger side mirror to be exact.

That sounded so crazy I actually checked my manual on it. Darned if you guys aren't right, shame on me for doubting! I thought the black box on the windshield included the XM antenna. Who knew?! :dunno:

OK, confused by what is meant by Platinum Edition. I know in 2007 this version came only in "purple". Yet I see cars in later years advertised as Platinum Ed, but different colors. Was the Platinum Ed different colors for later years? And... sorry if I missed this, what was different about the Platinum Ed cars? Thanks

They had several Platinum models. Different years had different colors available. Platinum Editions had polished chrome grills and wheels instead of the brushed crhrome and had different color wood for the interior.

In 2009 the base model was the Platinum Edition.
