2004 XLR: I tried to lower my roof today and the message center stated "Top Motor Overheated" and the top won't move. Any suggestions?

First question would be does the trunk work?
Next if it doesn't I would manually raise trunk to check storage area behind drivers rear wheel in trunk area where pump is located. Hopefully it hasn't got wet or standing water in compartment.
Also check the hydraulic fluid level and condition. That's the basic stuff to check before having to make a appointment with a CERTIFIED xlr tech. Hope it's something easy pumps run about 1,000. Good luck

Thanks for the heads up.

The Folding Top Hydraulic Pump Motor overtemp message will appear and shut off the motor power when the thermistor at the end of the motor case indicates 239 degrees. This can be reached by excessive cycling of the top on a hot day or due to a defective thermistor. The case is crimped shut, which is a shame to not be able to replace a very cheap component.

Thanks for your direction. I appreciate the help!

There's a rubber hose in a hole in the bottom of the well on the 2004, you should just cut the tip of it off, the hole in the end is to small, and this should clear whatever plugged it up and drain the water.

Thanks Stella, the left rear well was indeed full of water. Time to start bailing and assess the damage!

Well you'll definately need to find the source of the water. Maybe dry out the area completely throw 10 pounds of rice in there for about a week. :dunno: Theirs a lot of electronics in that compartment the last place you wanna see water. I wouldn't energize anything in the car, disconnect the battery, manually open trunk and dry it out with fans too so it gets into the modules too.
If I had such a problem I would take a 1/4 drill bit and Swiss cheese the bottom of the compartment. Then take a piece foam and line the bottom of the compartment so it acted like a screen so debris can't get in from the outside. You might have found what to spend your tax return money on. Good luck
