I wasn't sure what this is called.
Under the front bumper there are two frame pieces with small wheels that protect the front structure in case of bottoming out the front.

I inherited this car which was actually purchased by someone else not long before I got it.

At some point in its history the car looks like it hit a yellow painted curb pretty hard.
It broke a weld inside behind the bumper. I'm not sure if the welds are even factory!

So my main question is how concerned about this should I be?
I'm normally careful about the front.

Is this a difficult/costly repair?

What are these called?
Also what the rubber wind break piece is along the bottom of the bumper is called?
It's torn. Not super concerned about it but looks easy to replace.

It's called a skid plate. It also supports the radiator. Similar system as the C5 Corvette.

Oh! Duh! Skid plate!
Thank you

Well, I guess being that it supports the radiator it's pretty serious to get fixed.

Those attached little roller wheels on the front underside though are not on my 05 and pretty sure there not factory!

I think the wheels (not factory) would make it easier for the car to roll over a parking curb than to scrape and give you a warning. I'd take them off very soon.

That's not to say that it never had aftermarket wheels.
Being inherited and I wasn't at all involved with the purchase I really don't know the history other than what pops up in a report. Which wasn't much.
Somebody cracked that thing hard though. Jeez.

Yes they are the same as mine polished aluminum alloy they had them in chrome also!

If you polish them with wax like on car paint because they are clear coated they will shine up nice but not look as good as chrome

These front ends are low.... I added a curb alert that beeps when I'm about a 12"-15" away it was well worth the money! The whole car looks like it needs some TLC But should come back to life!

I'm referring to the casters attached to the underbody next to the radiator supports. Not the car's wheels/tires

The three-piece wind diffuser attaches with plastic grommets. But those small suitcase like wheels are absolutely not stock. Somewhere along the line somebody thought they were a mechanical engineer with mixed results I'm sure.

They're skid plate wheels - they're sold for Corvettes, supposed to help protect the skid plates going up driveways etc. They don't appear to have worked too well here!

Well who a known ........ here I thought they rigged up as a home made protection idea! I guess it's not a bad idea, but it's not gonna stop from nailing the nose first if the curb or whatever is to high anyways !

Well the skid plate/radiator support frame can not support the weight of the front of car, that's why it gets damaged. These little wheels will just apply the same stress to the frame so I don't think that is an improvement. Probably will just not sound as bad while the front of the car is rolling up on something until it finally fails.

That and it looks really weird!

Previous owner probably had a steep driveway, and after busting this once someone suggested the wheels.

Not something I would consider installing,,,,

Weird and ridiculous, IMO ,,,, but to each their own..
