My x has developed a belt chirp. Mainly in the morning. It seems to go away as you drive for a while. It sounds like crickets. I had new belts last year. Any idea what to look for?

A bar of soap? ; )

My '04 does the same thing...I think. I never noticed it as I usually have the radio playing. When I first noticed the sound last week, it was only when accelerating. When the accelerator pedal is released, the sound went away. I am going to check the belt condition and will probably replace the belt. May need some sort of belt dressing.

NEVER EVER USE BELT DRESSING! Your just masking the problem if its slipping or making a noise then you shall need a new belt and trust me I have replaced both of mine and used the Gatorback belts made by Goodyear. They are the most reliable and I have never had a issue since!

abosolutely!!! I would only use belt dressing to diagnose belt slippage when the belt otherwise appears good....if the chirp goes away with dressing....new belt immediately.

Thanks for callling me on that one....I didn't make myself very clear!
