This is what happens when an engine hydro-locks. It snapped atleast 3 connecting rods and they in turn broke through the block in multiple locations. Very Cool!

Someone thought their Cadillac was a submarine and went into deeeep water (water got into the intake manifold).

I understand the water did the damage, but what actually happened to allow the water to infiltrate the intake? Did it fly off a bridge? Was it submerged in a flood? Did it somehow drown in it's own coolant?

Probably all of us would like to avoid this type of problem, even if it were covered by the warranty.

They drove into deep water after heavy rains. The water entered the air filter housing and on into the intake manifold. Since the engine was running, it pulled the water into several cylinders and tried to compress it. As you know, liquids don't compress the same as air. The connecting rods twisted and snapped. The crankshaft then continued to turn, slinging the broken rods with it,where they broke through the block.

Huh, didn't realize stupidity was covered by warranty...

Bruce,

Is it true that the original architecture of the Northstar engine was based off of the C4 Corvette ZR-1's LT5 engine?

Yes, you are correct. They both are very cool engines.
