New member, bought 2005 xlr about three years ago. Love it, the power, the ride, the looks. Weighing the pros and cons of getting a 2009 v. Any advice appreciated.

Welcome Dr. J
Only now side of the V is loosing the adaptive cruise control if you've have grown to like that feature. They didn't have room after installing the supercharger! It's all about what you want!

if you like the 05 and can live without adaptive cruise you will really love the 09 V. Owning a V and comparing performance against a non V I really love the V. Personally on the 09 I do not like the front fender trim I like the cleaner side look of the pre 09 V's. I guess that is all in the eyes of the beholder! I think the newer ( after05) XLR'S had a lot of the wired problems resolved. It is still worry some on the parts that are no longer available. I do like the XLR'S for there uniqueness.
Good luck

I asked this very question to an owner who owned both models. I only own the V. His answer is below.

Hi Al....sorry to be so long in responding. I've been globe trotting.
I won't bore YOU with the long story about how & why I switched from my beloved Black Raven base model XLR to the present Crstal Red Tintcoat XLR-V.
I'm sure you already know the difference in the specs between the 2 cars, so I'll just give my drivers impression. The base XLR was quick & nimble to drive. It felt light & 'slippery'. All good sensations. The supercharged 'V' simply goes like hell. Just hearing the hand-built engine start up turns me on. Everything is heftier. Wheels/tires, brakes, suspension, etc. so, it feels more substantial in my hands when maneuvering. I just drove it from Palm Springs to the Olympic Pinensula via the Monterey Pinensula and it performed beautifully. Super fast around slower trucks and smooth as silk through the curves around Mt. Shasta. The 'V' is less hairy chested than some sports cars and serves best as a high performance grand tourissimo in my opinion. Perfect for this, my first long trip with this car. Very comfortable and exceptionally road worthy.
To wrap up, the XLR-V is an XLR base on steroids. As far as pros & cons, I see only "pros". I expected it to be more expensive to maintain than the base model, and it is. That's a "con", I reckon, but what price is glory?

PS: Glad I purchased the V, even though I only average 1,200 miles a year.
