I did not know that ...No one will ever replace Elvis. Many do not know that he paid to have the war memorial that floats in the Harbor in Hawai for the USS Arizona he ask that it not be disclosed until his death.

I never looked up if it were a fact or not. when we went to Hawaii and went to the memorial we were told that the orginal memorial was destroyed in a storm and little was left and then when Elvis was in hawaii he visited the spot and wanted to donate to perserve the memories of the fallen soldiers. I have no idea if that was correct but when we were there it is a beautiful peachful memorial.Actually; (and not to diminish his extreme generosity & patriotism) Elvis was one of many who contributed to the memorial construction fund.
Principal contributions to the memorial included:
The USS Arizona Memorial was finally dedicated on 30 May 1962 (Memorial Day) by Texas Congressman and Chairman of Veteran Affairs Olin E. Teague and Hawaii GovernorJohn A. Burns.
- $50,000 Territory of Hawaii initial contribution in 1958
- $95,000 privately raised following a 1958 This is Your Life television segment featuring Samuel G. Fuqua, Medal of Honor recipient and the senior surviving officer from the USS Arizona
- $54,000 from 25 March 1961 benefit concert by Elvis Presley
- $40,000 from the sale of plastic models of the Arizona in a partnership between the Fleet Reserve Association and Revell Model Company
- $150,000 from federal funds in legislation initiated by Hawaii Senator Daniel Inouye in 1961
The Pearl Harbor National Monument Bookstore revenue helps support the museum.
And to stay true to my character ... you're probably right ... but I prefer to remain a mushroom ...And just to stay true to my character = Elvis has no one but himself to blame for not being around to defend his title from Michael "the child molester" Jackson.
And the sad fact is; their lives were both lived in similar fashion = mostly hidden from view and what we do know about their private lives is just plain weird at best.
