HRE 543R: Testing clearances on 2007 XLR

This is going to sound silly, but left the house without picking up the XLR fender vents :)

Anyway, the show must go on!

The XLR crest still intact.

I had the shop repaint the side mirror since it had scuff markings on it.

Obviously, I'm going to need to get the 2009 XLR center tailpipes, so I ordered them today. It looks my car won't be ready today, but I'm very pleased with the outcome that Trends Body Shop. It took nearly 10-months, but who cares. I upgraded to newer parts.

Your car is looking fantastic, I like that grille, but am most interested in the results with the side vents. Please don't forget to post.

The shop thought that the rubber seals that surrounds the rear bumper sensors came stock in black. I showed the shop the error, so the rear bumper comes off. This will give me time to come back with the side vents if I can get back in time before they close today.

After. Not noticeable to the untrained eye, but XLRV/XLR owners it is.

Looks like the vents are not your typical stick-on decal, but the fender will need cut outs. This shouldn't be an issue since my is at a custom shop. It's my guess you'll have to have a study hand to complete the task. Either way these vents are detailed to the macks!

Okay, the $64,000 question. Does the 2009 XLR rear bumper fix onto prior years? Well, it's a yes and no answer. I dropped by the shop and the owner explained. The 2009 using different sensors which are larger in diameter vs previous years. Thus in order to reuse older sensors you must use a grommet. You can repaint rubber thus you'll either have to:

1. Purchase four 2009'sensors at $190 a pop or
2. Use ugly black grommet and paint or
3. Think outside the box.

I'm going to a plastic shop in town to make a me a set. That way the hard plastic sleeve can be painted the correct color. It's a pain, but I have no choice.

Also, there was a couple of items that were over looked that need replacement.

The cracked radiator cover.

The metal Armrest bezel. The insurance paid for the parts, but it was over looked somehow. No big deal. Just order them.

Going to need a hood bonnet or whatever you call it, because I can't reuse the none XLRV one.

Well damn, at least the riddle is solved. No true "stick-on". Wonder, is it possible to grind the back side down so you could just "stick on" and not have to cut into the fender panel?

Some have put on the hood insulation panel with a printed Logo. Check on eBay and check google search. Look'in Good

The faux vents are kinda deep so there would be a lot cutting to make the vent flush.
