HRE 543R: Testing clearances on 2007 XLR

The faux vents are kinda deep so there would be a lot cutting to make the vent flush.

Well, I was surely hoping for a different outcome even though Id been told cutting would be required. At least it does look you have a good shop to handle this for you. Good luck. Cant wait to see photo.

I believe these are the folks that can provide and embroidered insulator. You will have to get the retainers (part# 20064875). You will have to call them to order the XLR hood insulator.

https://www.carmotorsports.com/Underhood Insulators.htm

Scratch the comment about the retainers clips. The Car Motorsports guys say they supply them with your purchase.

"In fact, we include a complete set of new pop in clips to safely and securely fasten the insulator to your hood. These clips are FAR SUPERIOR to the original OEM clips. "

Got a link? I was looking for them last night, but couldn't find them.

See (Tim Nerkpowers) post here.
I had seen some on XLR's when we was at Bowling Ky. Homecoming Trip in 2013 but didn't know where they got them, they had them on the trunk area too. I'm thinking about having a painter air brush mine on in silver to match the car, if they can do that? Good Luck!

09 Sensor change

Hate to say this but yes the 09 sensors were changed, at least the ring that is. PAK XLR8 and I noticed this right away on our 09s when we got them. I have to admit i liked the painted rings on my 06 better, but I left my 09 the way they were. Also if memory serves me correct, somebody here painted the rings on his sensors and they did not work after that.

The shop thought that the rubber seals that surrounds the rear bumper sensors came stock in black. I showed the shop the error, so the rear bumper comes off. This will give me time to come back with the side vents if I can get back in time before they close today.

After. Not noticeable to the untrained eye, but XLRV/XLR owners it is.

Called the company today about the bonnet and left a message.

The shop installed the 2009 fender vents today. Definitely a modification once started you can't go back. It's my guess that the 2009 front fenders have cut outs, but as you can see they work on all pre 2009s. Actually, I like that the vents go into the body.

I still need to attach the XLR emblem in front of the vent.

Did you ever consider the SRX fender vent which look very similar. But different enough where they may not require fender cutting, and no one has them on an XLR?

Yes. I took some crude measurements and decided not to go that route.

I guess I missed it somewhere in these posts. What were the reasons behind rebuilding the X? Collision? Was it a different X you wanted to rebuild?

Accident.

Because of the accident I decided to upgrade to newer parts. The cost was more for 2009 parts, but in the end it was worth it. In all I think in all parts were 2k more or so. It only makes sense (to me) if your car is wrecked. I heard the parts are hard to locate and that's part of the main problem when upgrading our cars.

I REALLY LIKE the look with the new vents! Great addition. Breaks up that big spance of "nothing". Good job.:thumbsup

I am surprised anyone thought of the SRX vent. Either way your X looks great, upgrades and all.

Prior to the wreck I had several different ideas on which way to go, but I had promised my girlfriend I wouldn't mess with the XLR. Granted, that promise was voided once the car was wrecked. I was going to go wide body and all, but it's been nearly 10-months and I missed my car and having a wide body would prolong the process so I opt out. The girlfriend is happy ( she likes the car more than her SL500) and I'm happy. The extra fenders will have to be stored in the vault of dreams and maybe if I get a somewhat damaged XLRV I'd might go that route.

Here's a picture of somebody with a modified front fender vent.

Why different wheels on each side?

It's been my rule that you never leave your expensive wheels at a shop regardless of who owns the shop. Take all four off and use shop rollers or leave one on the car. This prevents thieves from jumping the gate and stealing your wheels. While your at it clean the car bone dry of information such as the registration. There's others reason too, but other-than-that you don't want over spray on the wheels. The work on my XLR was on the driver's side.
