I installed a mount for my Escort under the mirror from Blendmount.
http://www.blendmount.com/corvette.html (thanks ccclarke for the info).

Blendmount said I was the first XLR and used me for testing. Their support was great.

There were a few bugs, but in the end it all works great. They provided a plastic (Delron) plate for use on Corvettes. After modifying the plate to clear our windshield water sensor, and popping the mirror off the windshield a couple times, I realized that this piece was too thick to fit between the mirror mount and the windshield and left it out. The XLR mirror bracket must be a little different, and closer to the windshield, than the C6 'Vette. This plate was intended to reduce vibration and ease installation. I just used my finger to push the foam into position and have no vibration.

The color code on the connector to the mirror, where power is obtained, is different. The pin number/location is the same.

It took some patience to install, but not too bad. I highly recommend this product even if it is a bit pricey.

I'll be ordering mine as soon as I get home tomorow!

I got my BLENDMOUNT this week and am trying to install it - it seems to be hitting the plastic cover (over the rainsense sensor)... did you modify that piece? How difficult is it to remove the mirror? Is that the easiest way to mount this thing? Let me know. Thanks Fred. :worship:

Here in good ole Nebraska,,,,, It's against the law to have anything "dangling", like the fuzzy dice etc,,, from the rear veiw mirror. I wonder if this would be unlawful? :dunno: Might be something to check on wherever you are.

I'm not sure if its against the law here in IL - but I've had a crystal heart hanging from my DTX mirror since Cindy gave it to me - 20+ years ago.

I finally got my Blendmount installed - I'll post pics when I get it adjusted better. I had to set the lights to DIM - the bright setting really kind of blinded you when you looked to the right side of the windshield. Its fine with the DIM setting. I love the clean look.

If anyone is not wanting a permanent? mount I use the rubber suction cups and wired into the mirror, then used a small zip tie to secure the wire to the mirror so when it inevitably falls off
:dunno: it wont pull the wires out of the mirror. I have multiple cars that I take my detector in and only need the wire in the other cars that way. I love not having the flex cord hanging down now.

Sorry I did not see this until now.

The biggest thing I found was to not use the hard plastic piece that goes against the windshield. At first I modified mine to clear the water sensor. Then I found that it would not fit mine at all because it was thicker that there was space for between the glass and the mirror mount. This is where I popped the mirror off and learned how to put it back on.

I do not think removing the mirror is a good way. I just used my finger to help push the foam in place.

I really like mine. It is just about invisible from outside and gives a good clean look inside.

HTH

BTW, this is not a permanent mount. I move my 9500iX from car to car also. It's easy to release it from this mount.

Thanks Fred - that is what I found too - the plastic piece is not necessary. The key part that I found, when installing, was to loosen up the "vertical" adjustment screws, then, once in place, tighten down onto the circular rubber pad, below the mirror mount. Mine is all installed now and I love it. I agree, its virtually invisible from outside and provides a nice clean look on the inside. I love the power connection too - never liked those curly cords going to the detector from the power outlet.

Thanks again for your pictures and install tips... helped me a lot.

Here in KY it is illegal to have anything that "obstructs the driver's view or causes a distraction" This includes fuzzy dice, dream catchers from the mirror or GPS and radar detectors stuck to the windshield. I've heard of an instance where a banner at the top of the windshield was claimed to be a problem.

IMHO, the reality of it all is.... The only time things like this become a problem is when someone creates some "friction" with a LEO that is discussing something unrelated with you and/or what the first reason for the discussion was. That is, as long as things are "reasonable". Driving with a windshield completely covered with ice is not reasonable.

If they have a gun and a badge be beyond polite. I suspect this is a lesson most all of us here have already learned. Some of us the easy way and some the hard way.

Get pulled over for doing 85 in a 70 and you are being an adult about it and I doubt it will be a problem. Get pulled over for racing a Corvette at 140 in a school zone and ask why it took so long for them to catch up, they will be looking for any kind of trailer/additional charges they can. It can range from obstructed view to to dark of window tint to too loud of exhaust to too low of tire pressure. If 'ya all "p(drain your bladder)iss off" the man he will find something.

Again, just my opinion YMMV
