Nav system help

As a recent XLR owner, I am still learning the nuances of the car. I am trying to get the nav system to work. I attempted to enter my home address and discovered that the street I entered was only in Kentucky or Michigan. I am in New York. I tried to find the map for New York and it was not in the system. I only had 1 dvd and it was for the west US and Canada. Eventually I found the second dvd was in the slot behind the "tilt" screen. I attempted to load the second dvd which has the maps for the eastern US. The screen said that it was reading that dvd and to please wait. I waited for approx. 30 minutes before I quit. Does anyone know how long it shoud take to load the dvd?

My dvd loads in about 30 sec or less. I would put in the western and see if it loads. If it does the eastern might be dirty or bad. Take it to a store that rents dvd's and ask them to clean it for you. As yours is a 2009 it might still be under warranty and you could try the dealer. My car is an 07 and I was told the DVD's were not covered but when I called the dvd people they sent me a new set.

The slot behind the tilt screen is the DVD drive where the Nav disc goes, it should load in a few minutes at most. The slot in the dash is only for music CD's. I forgot to eyeball what year your car is but regardless, the last year they produced updated nav discs was in 2008 so even if you have a 2009 (as my car) your maps are 2008 or earlier. (the discs should say on them).

If you live in a development that is around the same age or newer than you discs then your street does not even exist on your nav system discs. Your home should be on the east disc (that also has Canada on it if I remember correctlly)

If you have older discs than 2008 and want an updated set youcan send me a PM with your address and I will send you a set when I get home (after May 1st) as I had my son in law copy these for just this purpose (they do require some specalized hardware to do this apparently).

Thanks for the information. There are currently no updates available for my unit, however, I put my name on a list to be notified when updates become available.

Thanks, Graytoad, I have a 2009 also and I live in a older neighborhood. I am going to try to get the disc cleaned and try again.

Don't hold your breath!! We don't think that there will ever be any more updates for our XLR NAV systems! The NAV system in the XLR is an older generation, Gen2/3 system.

I know this would never happen but if all us XLR Owners complain to GM/Cadillac about this just maybe we get lucky for update DVD or if we was really lucky do a recall and add a unit like a Garmin (DOUBT THAT)

In your statement below you say the other disc was loaded in the slot behind the tilt screen--then that should be the Eastern disc. The problem you are having entering the address is because you have to select the correct region, then the disc will look at that information. I'll have to look tonight when I get home to give you the instructions to get to that part of the navigation.

The instructions are in the owner's manual. I have that. I can not select the correct region because the button that represents the New York area does not appear. I think that it is either region 7 or 8.

Arthur,

NY is region 8. The East disc will let you select regions 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and Canada. It should show in the upper left corner of the screen when you select change in the search area screen. If they are not showing or you can't select them the disc may be dirty. Try cleaning it and try again.

The west disc does not include region 8, 9 or 10, so that could be your problem as well. Good luck with getting it working.
