My XLR/V(s)
2006 XLR V
Greetings from Georgia. I recently inherited my dad’s beautiful black 2006 convertible XLR-V Roadster. He was a classic car collector and bought this one new. All his cars were his babies and he kept them in top running condition. It’s pristine with 18k miles & has been in a climate controlled garage for all these years rarely driven. The battery is now completely dead and won’t hold a charge. I want to replace the battery and need advice. I’ve been told things like, “those Cadillacs have to be put on a computer to change out the battery.” I know nothing about this car, but I want to take care of it like my dad did before he passed. What should I do first?

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your father, but glad to hear that you are taking care of his cars.

If the battery is completely dead, just change it out for another one. There shouldn't be any damage from replacing the battery. You might lose your radio or seat/memory settings. I've disconnected mine multiple times to work on this or that... I just reset any settings that were lost.

You might search the forum for what kind or brand of battery. Some people prefer original name brand, some people prefer a more modern AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery. I lean toward OEM for most parts, but just go with the best battery Advanced Auto or AutoZone has to offer.

Just remember to start the car once every couple of weeks. Be careful not to start it when the battery is low. Low voltage can cause damage, but I've never experienced that on any of my GM vehicles... other than a check engine light that I needed a OBDII tool to reset. I use the older version of this one: https://a.co/d/08bzXpKJ

You want to look more at reserve power than cca. 600 to 650 is plenty these cars start easy but they do use up a battery when sitting. So unless you drive it every couple of weeks but a battery tender on it . as it really does not damage but does throw a lot of codes if the battery is really weak and you start it. You will need to index the windows when you install the new battery . just hold button down till window bottoms out then count 5 before releasing. Run it up till it stops and do the same. Now repeat passengers side. Top wont work unless the window drops down when you openboth doors
