Hello
I just purchased a 2005 XlR ,love it. The car is in great condition even though it has 100000, miles on it.
After reading and doing a lot of research on XlRs I am expecting some leaks and other common problems with it.
I am going to drive it until it starts giving me problems and then replacing the engine.
My question is can I replace it with a later model supercharger v? I have found three company's that sale rebuilds does anyone know where the best place to get one is or would recommend one.
I am from Point Pleasant WV anyone close to my area?

Welcome! You don't have to change out the engine if oil leaks start unless you want to - these engines are pretty rock solid (several on here with 150k + miles), & it seems once the standard oil leaks get fixed that problem is taken care of for good.

There have been a few threads on here about trying to drop a XLR-V engine into a base. I don't recall anyone finishing that; the person on the most recent thread was fairly gung ho to make it work but ultimately gave up.

There's another recent thread where an owner put a LS3 in, which was described as expensive but workable.

Enjoy your XLR!

Thanks that sounds good. I guess I just would need to get a head bolt kit and find a dealer who knows how to install them.

I put well over 200,000 miles on an older version of this engine. It was a 2000 Cadillac DTS with the Northstar engine. Ran like a top until I sold it. It did have an internal oil leak but replacing seal gaskets will remedy this.

The NorthStar used in the XLR was the last version with many improvements added. The only issue is the location of the (water-cooled) generator located on the bottom of the engine. It's a big (ie: expensive) job to replace, but reported instances have been rare.
