My XLR/V(s)
2006 black raven xlr-v
My car is black for sure, but I swear the title said star black limited edition. It has been sent to DMV now and not returned yet. When I look in the model center it says no -v cars were star black. The build sheet says 41-u black raven, and r6p premium paint. Anyone know what the r6p means in this case? When my title returns I will recheck it, but the lady at the tag office asked me specifically what star black was and I said I didn't know. oh yes 2006:rolleyes:

The Star Black was a special edition in 2006... came with Chrome grill, chrome wheels, and had a very special metallic flake paint. Also, the limited edition star blacks had the production number on the door sill (125/300). Easy way to tell if yours is a star black is if it has that on your door sill plate. I think you would be able to tell just by the paint too - the metallic flake is very obvious. :rocker:

There were no 2006 V's in Star Black, only the Base Model. Total of 250 made.

so what could the rp6 mean? what should I be looking for?

We definitely pay the personal property tax!! $1200 to renew for a year. ouch. Wouldn't expect many new ones to show up here. There is another 06-v bought new here though and a non v, nice showing for a small (12,000) town. :worship:

Any info would be appreciated on this build sheet. Many of these codes are not on the link you provided Cubby. I would like to know anything I can find out about my car. I also want to NOT pay taxes on a special car if I don't have too as First Robin said earlier. Don't want to argue with the tax man about something I don't know or have correct either. Thanks for all the help. Still want to know what that R6P means, what do I look for?

GM doesn't list any R6P code that I have found anywhere. Below is all the 'R' codes I found:

R04 : WHEEL SINGLE RR
R05 : WHEEL DUAL RR
R10 : MANUAL, ROADSIDE SERVICE INFO
R1P : CHASSIS EQUIPUENT HEAVY DUTY, COACHBUILDER/LIVERY
R1U : CONVERSION, AUTO-FAB INC.
R1V : APPEARANCE PACKAGE
R1W : NOISE CONTROL, AIR CLEANER, ECU
R1X : NOISE CONTROL, AIR CLEANER, ECU, EXH INTER PIPE
RC1 : TURBO PERFORMANCE SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT
RC2 : LAMP GROUP COMPONENTS
RRL : WHEEL FRT, 22.5 X 6.75 6 HOLE 8.75 BC BS DCT RRM : WHEEL RR, 22.5 X 6.75 6 HOLE 8.75 BC BS DCT (FI-277B)

My 2006 V Infraed is a tri-coat color; perhap the black is the same way.

Well Cubby I sure appreciate your looking for me. I looked at the car in the sunlight today and there is not a speck of metallic in it. What is tri-color paint? thanks Mike

Tri-color paint is where the base coat is put down, followed by a mid coat (usually a clearcoat with pearl), followed by a straight clearcoat. I actually didn't think any XLR's were painted in tri-coat. Hey Cubby, what is your paint code?

Paint code is 80U/WA301N Red Jewel Tintcoat (Infrared)

Rod,
I know you are a body man, but I beg to differ with you. The Red Jewel was a tri-coat paint. Basecoat, tinted clearcoat and clearcoat. Perhaps that is why mine looks better than yours:lol::lol::lol:

I'll check to be sure, but I believe that's the same code as my 07 base. Not a tri-stage... red metallic basecoat with a clearcoat over top.

You are correct, there weren't any production XLRs (or Corvettes) painted Tri-coat. I have been told that Bowling Green Assembly won't do Tri-coat paints and that is the reason we never saw a White Diamond XLR. I have heard stories that "one-off" White Diamond Corvettes were done @ the plant for engineering purposes years ago, but never made it to production. White Diamond XLRs could be special ordered through the proper channels and would have been painted in Michigan (I don't believe any were done).

Many of the paints for the XLR had either tinted clear coats or metallic in the base coat color.

My apologies, Rod. I guess it is just a tinted clearcoat over the basecoat. I am confused by what I received from a paint dealer on touch-up last fall--they sent basecoat, a tinted clearcoat and clearcoat. Haven't used it, so I don't know if it is right or not.:dunno::dunno:

You were given 3 bottles because of your tinted clearcoat. You can apply your color coat, then your tint and finally your clear. The tinted clearcoat aka premium paints, can be tough to match and or touch up.

Apology accepted... it is interesting that you received three touch-up bottles, though. When I restored my XLR from being totalled, I just used the correctly matched basecoat, followed by the clearcoat and the match was right on. In most of the newer colors, pearl metallics are used in the basecoat; the reason for the different colors in the paint, i.e., if you look close, there are greens, and blues, in the metallic look.
In many cases in the aftermarket refinish, there can be several "variances" in the same code, i.e., lighter, darker, redder, yellower, etc. The reason for this is when cars are painted at the factory the paint is drawn from large (600+ gallon) vats of color. Usually the color is drawn from the bottom of the vat of color. Even though the color is constantly stirred and agitated, the color does change slightly from car to car. My paint man has actually painted color chips for each of the variances for every code. I hold these chips up to the car that I am going to paint, and pick the closest match. Even then, I end up having to blend the color into the adjacent panels.

Most of the XLR colors were Corvette colors with a different name for them.

Isn't r6p a GM Early order activity code? Anyway... Hi, just came aboard, nosing around for an XLR-V. I presume the later the model the better? Though, not crazy about that Jaguar-like trim on the 2009. I had heard that they actually made a handful of 2010 models? True? Thanks
