Probably a lost cause

I'm putting a Pioneer unit in my 2004 xlr. Everything works except the steering wheel controls. Has anybody else had this problem. I'm using the Gmos-06 and a axxess ASWC-1 which connects to the Gmos. The mini plug on the axxess plugs into the Pioneer. Its in the right socket. Are there wires coming from the steering wheel that need to be connected? Appreciate any help.
