I need some guidance about how this is done properly. I can get it "loose", but there is still something holding it that has been yet undetermined. Can anyone direct me to, or provide, a schematic that reveals an exploded view? Many thanks in advance!

Are you referring to the High Mounted Brake Light or the Backup Lamp assembly that surrounds the license plate?

Actually... neither of those. The tail light assemblies on the sides are the ones in question.

To remove the Rear Turn Signal Lamp Assembly:

1) Open the rear compartment.
2) Remove the caps covering the turn lamp screws.
3) Remove the screws attaching the turn signal lamp assemblies to the rear quarter panel.
4) Pull the assembly rearward to disengage from the quarter panel.
5) Disconnect the electrical connector.

When re-assembling, torque the screws to 18in/lbs

If you have it to the point where it is loose, pull harder and it will pop out.
(I had both of mine out when I put a trailer hitch on my 04)
