Well Gang, got a call from the caddy dealer today. I have had it in shop for reseal twice. thought the call was we are finished ! well not so lucky I was informed they found a cracked cylinder liner and the motor will have to be replaced?? don't know how this happened as the motor was running perfectly when delivered to dealer. The dealer offered a used engine with a two year warranty attached at no cost to me. The used motor is from a XLR .
Damn! All I wanted is my leaks stopped and now I will have a XLR with the wrong engine numbers..
:(:mad::dunno:

QUESTION WOULD BE WHY THEY DIDNT FIND IT THE FIRST TWO TIMES YOU HAD IT IN FOR WORK...
they ripped you off for alot of work that would not have been necessary if they had diagnosed properly the first time,
or they knew and ripped you off to get extra $$ for unnecessary services.
or they didnt know because it wasnt there , and only happened in their possession,
that means they blew up your car while they had it , and its their responsibility to fix.
cylinders dont just crack rolling into the shop...
time to call up headquarters and ask for a goodwill engine replacement due to negligent/incompetent/fraudulent dealer
either ripping you off or blowing up your car.

give them a chance to make it right, let them know you will pursue via BBB and get a lawyer if necessary.
then give them a review online here :)

this is from another post here on xlr-net
i thought it apropos

this is the whole thread, about a ripoff job another dealer did...

I don't know how Florida deals with their motor vehicle dealers, but I have direct experience by virtue of having been a dealer in Colorado.

CO has a State Motor Vehicle Dealer Board that meets monthly to deal with customer complaints against flaky/incompetent dealers. They have a "take no prisoners" view on fraudulent claims and misrepresentations by dealers and deal out $50,000 fines at the drop of a hat. I seem to recall that they also fine the bad dealers for damages to rectify the customers' issues. This goes a long way to ensuring that most dealers are reputable and honest. Good dealers get painted by the same brush as the bad ones, so the caring dealer wants the bad ones punished.

Filing a complaint with the FL Board likely would be the
best way to guard against future customers being "ripped off" by that awful dealer.

I originally brought the car in for a complete reseal..$3,500.. and now I have a 06 XLR motor with 50,000 less miles two year warranty and a complete reseal and no additional cost. So I'm not sure they are ripping me off yet. we shall see. but to your point how did a cylinder crack??? we may never know. But thanks for the heads up!

A cylinder will crack if the engine was ran without any water in the cooling system. Did they show you the crack in your old engine?

aha!!
i interpreted your post as they threw in the warranty at no cost, but were going to make you pay for the engine...
now i understand:)
good service deserves just as much recognition as bad service,
although i wonder, with such an over the top giveaway, if they know what happened, and know they owe you an engine??
it is unusual to get a dealer to throw in an engine,
wiper blades, free carwash, maybe...
whole engine, installed?
owners son was doing burnouts at the prom, with your car;)
