Tail light wiring harness

Are the left and right wiring harnesses specific to the side they are on, or should they power either a left or right tail light assuming they work?

My passenger side tail light completely stopped working today... I tried plugging it into the driver side harness to rule out a problem besides the actual fixture being broken. It did not work... safe to say it's dead?

Most likely the tail light has failed since both are wired the same. (All things being equal, the connector's pinouts need to match. . . you can verify that by connecting the good tail light on the opposite side and see if it works.)

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, moisture had accumulated in the fixture somehow so it probably affected the circuit boards or power supply. One of the worst nightmares for an XLR given the tail light situation.

As long as they aren't crushed. maimed, or otherwise physically damaged, tail lights can be repaired for a lot less than what the used-parts market sometimes tries to extort.
