thanks guys i called Swope cadillac and they will get me in thrusday to take a llook at it may they can fix it i will keep you posted cant wait to get to go for a ride with top down

took my xlr to swope cadillac in louiseville ky they fix top and trunk in fifteen minutes all they had to do is set the relays man i love them guys they was great and took a lot of worry off me it was shure worthy the drive them guys over at don hall in ashland ky was lost they did not have a clue how to fix it thanks everone now the top is down and iam read to ride i will always try to find a xlr tech when i have a problem with it

Several solutions

I had many problems with trunk and roof. more than 8 times in garage cadillac in europe and decided by my US Parts Supplier to have a XLR Technician Support (Sensor 28).

Check with your local dealer (because need OBDC) these points:

- disconnect your battery, wait 1 mn and reconnect
- setup windows again
- upgrade internal software of the car (OBDC)
- switch in handbox ON/OFF (certain times corrosion and bad contact)
- level of oil in pump roof (left side in trunk) ; to my part, purge and new special oil.
- grease of mecanism (arms ...) don't hesitate with special grease
- grease lock of trunk
- check and "change" the sensor of trunk opening (exterior)
- grease the locker mecanism (in center of top front wind - two lockers blocks the "long screws" to fix the roof to the car in close position)
- check all sensors (with ODBC) one per one (switch close/open) ; you can buy the technical guide repair if need, all electrical scheme indicated for your local garage (10$).
- if all sensors are correct, so realign all sensors (with ODBC)
- grease with "tyrox" GM all joints to avoid any large friction
- CHECK AND CALIBRATE THE SENSOR NUMBER 28 (not in roof system but to my part, XLR technician find this excellent solution and no problem since)
- check compartment in trunk, fix the separation with "light glue" in down, and clean the head right and left of the separation (two plastic tubes that clips)
- ALWAYS take care the car in plane position to open or close and prefer 1200T/mn to open or close the roof.
- Prefer opening the door in first with keyless remote and after the roof with key remote ; I constated certain time problems when opening trunk before opening the doors (general unlock)

P.S : ONLY USE CONFORM GREASE AND OIL GM and Cadillac Repair with equipment (ask to the mechanical in first if their ODBC is upgraded ...)

TOP GETS STUCK

I have a 2007 XLR and I have problems every now and then when trying to bring my top up. When the trunk goes up it stops. I have only had my vehicle for a little over a year and it is still under warranty. Roadside service has come to my home to manually put the top up. When the roadside technician hooks his gadget to the inside of the vehicle he gets an error message saying there is something wrong with the top. However, I have taken the car to the dealer twice and two different dealers and they cannot find anything wrong with the top. This is so frustrating! I get sweaty palms each time I want to take the top off. Is there something that can be replaced?

P.S: I see that with the heat weather (sun), the trunk may be hard to open (stretching metal) ; check the losange articulation left and right, because if twist, don't opening ... need many grease.

For my part, very good customer support and try to serve and help the client and he has a XLR tech contact with skills.

The roof was, apparently, manufactured by this company : Home | Magna International Inc. | Magna International Inc. Don't worried, Peugeot, WV, MB had many similar problems with this type of roof. Just see other forums.

I suggest Cadillac should be build only by US companies with approuved technologies. The XLR is a super-car but so many problems ... If its your first Cadillac, you will buy an other brand... dommage because Cadillac is very reliable normally and simple to repair by any skill garages and low cost to maintenance (compared to german brands for example). I hope new models will better.

I had the same problem last year after my battery drained. Took the car in and the top had to be "reprogrammed." Not sure what exactly this entailed, but the problem was fixed following the procedure.

yes that is a crying shame to buy and pay for something that you hope to keep and then they cant even help you at the dealership you have to drive it 200 miles to get it worked on i think iam getting out of the cadillac bussiness . This takes the fun out of it. thanks i will call Swope and see if i can get them to work on it

Read your prior question. Did you ever resolve your issues with your top and trunk? In Dallas we do have a Caddy dealer Massey w/a tech 2. However the mechanic/body/personal XLR rebuilder, trained is a crook and thief. So, very little is accomplished there. Top stopped 1st. His personal Re-builder top started working. Then in a few months later Trunk stopped functioning. The trunk latch always clicks sometimes if you hold your foot right the trunk even opens about a foot then right back down. Have tried all the optional opening methods. Manually you can lift it.

Please Excuse Me! If I didn't follow proper protocol! The foot statement was just a light hearted attempt to indicate the inconsistence of it's operation.
