2005 Crimson Pearl XLR
I'm the type of guy that tends to keep things for a LONG time. I've never been a "flavor of the month" kind of guy. I have friends that have had a large number of vehicles come and go through the years.

I've always had the tendency to clearly focus on what it was that I really wanted. Once I determined what the object of my desire was, I then focused on acquiring it. After that, it was simple. Take care of it, drive it and enjoy it!

I purchased my 1966 GTO from the original owner in 1972. I have now had it for over 41 years.

I purchased my 1976 El Camino new in 1976. I have now had it for over 37 years

I ordered my 1977 FXE-1200 in September of 1976 and took delivery in March of 1977. Come March, I will have owned it for 37 years.

And I've owned my 1989 Chevrolet Cameo S-10, purchased new, for over 24 years.

I've only had my XLR for five years, but it is going to be another "keeper" for me.

I have no plans to sell any of them anytime soon.

So how about you folks?

What do you own, vehicle wise, that you have owned for a very long time?

Purchased my '55 Chevy Belair Sport Coupe in November, 1974. First official car of my own, and she was one year older than me. I must admit that she was in various states of condition up until the mid-90's when I did a body-off-chassis project and restored her to pretty good shape. Simply can't see her out of my possession. A few pix are associated with my profile page.

The only vehicle I've owned for quite a long time is my 1966 Mustang Convertible, Sahara Beige ext/Black Pony int, steel styled wheels, interior console. I brought it from a complete basket case - inner running boards rusted out, all four floor pans rusted out, all four corners rusted, well, you get the idea - to what it is now. My first project car - and what a project it turned out to be - when I started in the collision repair business, that was 30 years ago.

I don't know if this counts, or not, but here's one story of a long-term love affair with a car.

My buddy and I each went out on the same week in September 1964 and bought cars. I bought a top-of-the-line 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury, and he bought a custom-ordered 1964 Corvette roadster. I paid just under $3K for mine, including an extra $100 to have seat belts put in it. That was all I could afford. My friend paid about $5,500 for his 'Vette.

I've lusted after that little 'Vette ever since I saw it. Over the years, every time I talked with my friend I reminded him that I had first refusal on it if he EVER saw fit to sell it. He just kept improving the little 'Vette, pampering it, having the engine blueprinted/balanced, the suspension improved, etc., over the years. In 2011, he called to tell me that he couldn't live another day without a C6 Corvette. He said that his wife told him to go get it... AFTER he sold the '64. In short, I bought the car I had been wanting for some 47 years. It's not perfect, neither am I. Both of us show the miles, but we're not gone yet. We both still run OK. Now, the little red 'Vette is coming up on its 50th birthday. We talk a lot, it and I. I blather on as to how I really need to get its weatherstripping replaced, and a paint job wouldn't hurt either; "Li'l Red" just sits there and puts out pleasant vibes, until I start it and it gets to roar a bit.

"Li'l Red" just makes me smile. :D

I had a 69 1/2 six pak super bee, until I HAD to have an xlr, that made it 30 years. I still own 84 suzuki gs1150es that I bought new. I guess that is 30 also. I seem to keep most about 10 years.
I will have this xlr until I die, even if I cant drive it anymore. I intend to keep my sts until I can't drive anymore, don't know about after that.

Trip down memory lane!
I had 1973 El Camino too! I bought it after 3 other starter cars out of school
It was dark green color & white vinyl top with a white camper top on the back. I kept it about 5 years until I got the wife pregnant then she said it had to go. (You know no room for the baby, to loud! That it was) It had the 350, auto trans, headers, side pipe and awesome wire spoked mag wheels and Goodyear Radial tires 6" front and 10" on the back, can't believe I only ever found 1 picture of it, and not sure where that is now! But wish too I still had it! But starting a life with my wife back then you had to do what you had to do to make ends meet!!! So you can only wish and dream it come back to you!
BUT NEVER SEE IT AGAIN!

Haven't been in a position until recently to keep a car a long time as an extra - just use 'em up & wear 'em out.

However, I plan on starting a new tradition by keeping my XLR a long, long time! Wouldn't "trade up" for a newer model XLR or for a XLR -V - if it ever hits the point of it won't run & can't find any parts, I'll just resto-mod it & put different guts in it!

Forgot about my 1973 AMC Javelin. Got it as a high school graduation gift from my parents. 390 4BBL, factory Hurst 4 speed... one hot machine. Still have it, although I haven't driven it in years. It is in inside storage at my storage yard. When I was in college, I could scratch the tires in all four gears... that is after I laid a good patch in first gear. Could beat dang near everything in Billings at the time... GTO's, Firebirds, Camaros, etc. My heart still beats fast just thinking about it...

Wow! I use to love AMX I guess about the same car juts a few more toys and fancy paint!

I too tend to keep a car(s) for a long, long time. I bought a 1987 Pontiac Fiero when I was in college and 22 year later I still have it. My love affair with the Fiero has multiplied, but I still drive up and down CA and far as to FL, IL, and countless time to OK. Granted, this would not be possible if it wasn't for the power plant in the back; a Cadillac Northstar 32 valve V8.
If at all possible I try to keep some the Pontiac's Fieo DNA.
Here's some of them:

Looks like a Cadvettiero! Very neat mods!

WOW, I like it! We were at a Pontiac Only show yesterday and we were quite surprised there were NO Fiero's there. We were in our 64 Acadian Beaumont wagon (Acadians were Canadian only, GM built car brand from 61 - 71) and there were about 30 older Pontiac's, GTO's, Catalina's etc a few Firebirds and 40 G8's and other newer cars in various stages of customizations. Your car would have had all those G8 guys in fits. :willy_nilly:

I think it is high time that you dust that thing off and get it going once again. :burnout: At the very least, clear a path to it so we can see it when we come out for the Montana run!

I can't seem to sell anything I buy. I put to much blood, sweat, and tears into my babies. This is the first car I bought all by myself. I've Owned her for 17yrs, taken every nut and bolt off her with a full restoration top to bottom front to back. Motor is a 351 Windsor with a clutch less 4 spd. She puts out 540 horse power to the rear wheels with a big nitrous plate for another 250hp. Yah that's right little less than 800 ponies. I take her up to local car shows and drive nights but that's about it. <a href="http://s1246.photobucket.com/user/topila/media/F747A666-70A3-4BFB-94DB-6FF313024A83.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg620/topila/F747A666-70A3-4BFB-94DB-6FF313024A83.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo F747A666-70A3-4BFB-94DB-6FF313024A83.jpg"/></a><a href="http://s1246.photobucket.com/user/topila/media/301C002F-72EC-4C16-A05C-666AA513B5E8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg620/topila/301C002F-72EC-4C16-A05C-666AA513B5E8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 301C002F-72EC-4C16-A05C-666AA513B5E8.jpg"/></a>
And since the addition of sister "stella" she's not been getting the attention she deserves:argue:

Pics right after paint.

All three Fieros have the 32V Northstar motors.

Due to CA strick regulations all three Northstar Fiero must have the stock Cadillac's dash computer. I had a custom made dashes which the Caddy's dash pod is on the passenger's side.

Since I now own a XLR with a Northstar 32V under the hood I must say I feel all "good" inside. Maybe one of thess days I might get a XLRV.

These blue car sports a 3800SC w/turbo. Currently I have a wide body kit for it, but another car is currently being modified.

All four cars sport HRE wheels and also for the XLR. I will sport the other car once it's out of the body shop. I've had that too for quite some time. Here's a couple of pics of the car.
