One of the first things I did with my recently acquired 2008 XLR was swapping out the DRL/Turn signal 3757A bulbs with VLEDS V6 Extreme White Amber Switchback 3157-Resistor Free kit. The kit is a bit on the expensive side but is of high quality and there was no cutting or splicing of the factory wiring required. Video of the VLEDS in my XLR.

Nice setup. Where did you stick on the resistors, do they get hot enough that it's a worry? Everything around the fenders/engine compartment is plastic , SMC.
The new LED bulbs I have ended up not doing switchback, and they hyper flash, which I don't mind. No dash warnings, so that's great. Will see if it's a problem at inspection time. Have to do annual inspections in PA. LOL

There is not a separate resistor, just a small controller module that I zip tied to some of the wires behind the headlight assembly.

They still get hot snd the plastic that holds the bulb in the housing is very thin. thats what melted a lot of lights in 04-05

First, those VLED V6 Extreme bulbs look really great! I've recently searched the ends of the internet looking for anything else that might be close.... no luck. These are almost certainly the best option for these cars, and for those wanting to go the extra mile, they even have a cooling fan that attaches to the heat sink outside of the headlight housing: V6 EXTREME FAN COOLER KIT

That said, I'm hoping that just switching to any LED will be good to stop burning the lens. It looks like most halogen bulbs output heat over 500 F. While LEDs output heat under room temperature (less than 75 F).

I'm probably going to try the switchback from Super Bright LEDs.

Since I have an '05 with the 5 wire headlights... do I need to build a 2-pole to 3-pole circuit like this: The end-all DRL modification
