My oil life is currently at 8% will the DIC actually give me a message....like "Change Motor Oil" or will the "Check Engine Light" come on? I was told by my Cadillac Service Manager that my oil change (tranny fluid also) would be free if the DIC say's that the oil needs to be changed. Currently I have about 3000 miles on the car since my last oil change. Any insight would be greatly apreciated.

Sounds like they failed to reset it after your last oil change.

My message didn't come on until I was down to 4% (maybe it lights up when under 5%). I actually put exactly 12,001 miles from my previous oil change... almost 10 months ago. My brother has two GM Certified mechanics for brother-in-laws and they both are firm believers in the Oil Change indicator system.
Most of my driving is done on the open highway. :rocker:

I have always changed mine at 50%. However, I wouldn't mind stretching it out a bit to save the extra $$$. My Cadillac dealer charges $100 for the oil change.

I agree, in todays economy any savings is good.
