Help! CD Changer repair question

I have a jammed CD changer. I need to pull the unit and send it off for repair. I have been told United Radio in Syracuse is the East Coast Repair shop for GM. Anyone have any experience with them? While I know the procedure for pulling out the unit - with this car do you just take out the fuses, remove the unit, and are you able to drive the car safely while the repair is taking place. I appreciate any and all tips on this procedure. I am new 2006 XLR owner and new to this forum - this CD problem just occurred. Thanks to all in advance.

I've never driven with the unit out, but I do know that the speed sensor goes through the head unit, so your cruise control may not operate. you also won't hear any music, unless you sing to yourself

Sorry to hear that your CD is jammed. Since we're on the subject, are there and repair shops here in CA or is this a GM specific repair? Mine is working fine, but it would be nice to know-just in case.
