I am having a small issue with my cruise control. From time to time when crushing down the interstate my cruise will just disengage for no reason. I have come to learn that cruise will not engage if the traction control light is on, but t but this will be working g fine and then 20 to 25 miles in it just turns off on its own. Any insight??

This condition is rare, but not unheard of.

You are correct, enabling Traction Control will disengage Adaptive Cruise Control. If the intermittent fretting connector condition under your steering column (many posts on this problem/dealer fix) is present in your vehicle, it could signal that TC is engaged, and drop your ACC offline. It's worth a shot to have checked out since your problem appears to be intermittent.

I always have my traction control on. The only time that I notice it off is when the dog presses the button. I even have it on with the cruise control unless the traction control turns itself off whenever the acc is engaged, then I have no idea when or if my traction turns off except if the dog [emoji240] presses it by mistake?

Yes, mine will not engage if the light in the dash shows there is a problem with traction control. But the issue is with the CC just out of the blue shuts off while running down the interstate. Mine also works with the traction button staying on, I never turn it off either.

Having Traction Control ON (the default condition) is not the same as having it active. When TC is active, ACC disengages (as it should.)

The intermittent fault with the previously-mentioned connector
will set TC to active, disabling ACC.

This might be the cause of your problem; a wheel speed sensor intermittently failing is another cause to consider.

I have had the cruise control on a different GM vehicle (06 Impala SS) disengage intermittently due to the axle shaft wearing through the speed sensor wires on the integral hub/bearing/speed sensor assembly. Carefully inspect the wires coming from the speed sensors in your rear wheel bearings. One of them may be worn through and be intermittently shorting to the axle shaft as you drive down the road. On my Impala the front axle shaft wore through the outer protective sheathing and eventually the insulation of the sensor wires. I changed the wheel bearing assembly and all was well...until it happened again...and again. The routing of these wires on GM vehicles is very close to the spinning axle.

Here's the original TSB, also located in a previous thread on this site.

Traction Control and StabiliTRAC are independent functions controlled by the same switch. (See your owner's manual for operation of the Traction Control Switch.)

Note that another message besides the one in the TSB can be displayed: "StabiliTRAC Engaged". It can be hard to see, (especially with bright sunlight) as it might only flash for a moment, and may be followed by the car pulling hard to one side - hard enough to cause an accident, --especially if you aren't expecting it and the road is slippery.

One of the signals required for StabiliTRAC to engage is when one (or more) wheel speed sensors abruptly change speed, signaling a loss of traction control on one side, causing the car to apply the brakes to compensate to maintain a straight line, based on the steering wheel position sensor.

This TSB is primarily concerned with the steering wheel position sensor value being affected, since the signal goes through the connector under the steering wheel, hence its connection with StabiliTRAC.

Probably not the same cause, but I have had the ACC disengage when it has been jammed by another signal, at least, that is what I have always assumed it to be. Works fine and then just dops out and will re-enage immediatly (ie I press the button), then no problems again. It is a rare occurance and may be a moot point.

Is it possible to disengage ACC and run as regular cruise control on my '04 XLR? I believe it is possible on the new Caddys.
