One of the steps in directions on a thread to remove the inner door panel, say: step 1-lower the window, step 2- remove the inner pull handle plug, and then remove the screws behind it. Question- WHERE IS THAT PLUG LOCATED ON 2005 XLR????? H E L P!!!!

there is a screw behind the courtesy light that most people seem to not remove and breaks a couple of tabs off the panel. every used one I see has that part broken. I will look at mine in a couple hours and let you know where else there is a screw. I thought there was a little soft rubber piece on or hear the pull handle that pulls up. to reveal a screw? The panel is very tough to pull off. The clips are long and strong . and they will fall back into place so easy and reattach . I use a couple of shop towels so when I start at a corner and wedge the towels under the panel to hold it off the door.

Many thanks mickeytee!! I finally figured it all out by myself. There is a little piece of thin rubber where your finger tips would be when you grab the door close handle. I lifted it out with a very tiny screw driver, and my fingers, and alas!- two hex head bolts are there. I found that the little plastic tabs on the door panel, that hold the door "open" buton , had dried out and broke. I re-installed the push button, and packed thin cellulose packing material all around it to hold it in place. When I was satisfied that it woudn't move, I reinstalled the door panel. I then pushed the open button, it sayed in place, and it worked like new!! I had trouble getting to that nylon courtesy light strap( I guess it was dried out too -because trying to reach it to remove the holding cap screw, it broke, so I put it all together with out it. Do you think that will be a problem?? I don't, but always value another opinion.

No it should not be a problem at all. The clips are enough to hold the door all but the arear where the handle is and I have seen several in the shop that people have left them out and the handle just moves a bit when you shut the door. if you need any interior parts for the door, I have several used ones and will be glad to give you what you need if I have it.

At least one side broke causing the problent seems that their were two little pices of plastic on either side of the door open push hutton and at least one side broke, causing the problem. I packed ithe pushbuton with styrofoam all around to hold it in but it is going back inside the panel. I am going to take the panel off again and find a better way to secure it

I had the same type problem when I replaced the ignition switch/button when i first got the car. The things are held in by the plastic tabs on the sides.
Get you some of the 3M double sided gray tape used for attaching name plates, logos and such on the exterior of the car. It's got a red plastic skin and the tape itself is very pliable and can be mashed into shape. Put it on the side of the switch, press the switch back in it's slot, mash the tape around the switch making sure to get it packed in. Then reassemble the door panel. That will take away all the wiggle

Door switch

Why wouldn't you just order a new switch and install it. Part # 10354849 and cost is $18.46 at gmpartsdirect.com
