Hi all..That dreaded time has come....My rear passenger light/signal stopped working...Brought it to my Caddy Dealership and was told need taillight assembly...As the majority of you know ..part has been discontinued...Dealer found one in Texas but whoever has it won't part with it...So feelers are out ..scouring everywear..
Any suggestions?..,.

Which side? (It makes a difference when searching parts sources.)

XLR Rear Tail Light Repair

Hi,
Good morning. Just another sunny day in Paradise. I also had a hard time finding a replacement. However, I was just looking through ebay the other day for XLR parts and there was a posting for XLR tail light repair. A place in Alton, Il and said they would repair the led's for $229. May want to go through the list in ebay and fin the sight. By the way I had to pay $500 for a used one. I would rather of had the old one repaired.
Have a great day,
Fred

Fred, could you please help with the name of the place. Mine just went out and I'm having trouble finding a place that will work on it. Thanks.

It ended up being a friend of mine and a electronics friend of his heating the red plastic up , carefully removing the 2 plastic parts and soldering new LED's then epoxy / gluing everything back together . We were getting desperate since our car couldn't pass the vehicle inspection with the LED's not working properly . Right now he has my "import" light I bought new but the LED's are amber color and he is changing to red . I told him that this could be a good side job for him fixing all our lights . He said the worst part is getting the 2 plastic parts separated (since there are no spare parts ) , after that it's fairly easy .

update
Well . its been awhile and they finally got around to changing the amber leds to red and changed the 5 wire plug to a 4 wire. Everything seemed ok when they tested it before reattaching the red outer plastic and gave it back to me . The new 4 wire switch over was perfect , the only issue I have now is some of the leds are flickering . So now on Monday Im heading out to his place with my car and he is going to pull it apart again to see whats the issue . Bad connections ? bad leds ? My first tailight he fixed there is 1 led flickering as well . I'm the guinea pig here until he can master the repairs and get it perfected . Then I can hopefully pass on his info to everyone.

Rear Taillight Assembly Replacement

Thanks Rnrt99 for the update...Hope it works out ..Let us know

",,,,,,, soldering new LED's then epoxy / gluing everything back together"

If using epoxy putting everything back together,,,,,wouldn't that make it extremely difficult in getting the assembly back apart if there is a 'flickering' issue?

Maybe clear silicone adhesive might work better? I don't know,,,just asking.

There have been a couple of vendors mentioned/posting on here who do 3d brake light repairs. I don't know if they would take on "regular" brake lights, but it might be worth a shot asking & offering them extra $$$ to try. Disclaimer: I haven't used these people & don't know anything about them, but here's links picked up from the forum:

I'm not sure what he used but you're right , hopefully not a heavy duty epoxy . But something strong enough that wont come apart on the road and is water proof . He wasn't too worried about pulling apart again so we will see. What a hassle though , sure wish I could just buy a brand new f*n light and be done with it :banghead:
