A while back, I posted a thread about a "chattering" and a "Rubbing" sound/s from my differential.
I received several comments, (Thank Yewww!) mainly about changing the "Lube", sometimes necessitating several times.
I did that and achived some good results, so I decided to change it one more time,.......
I went to my GM Parts distributor and ordered a couple more Quarts.
When the order arrived, I received two Quarts of GM "Quadrasteer, Axle gear lubricant, Part #12378557.
I called the suplier and told him that I had ordered GM #88862624.
The Parts guy stated that it was the same thing and this was a "Newer Version".
Today, I decided to make the "change" and immediately noticed that the "Quadrasteer was a pinkish color as compared to the 88862624.
Both state that they meet GM requirements for Differential Clutches and have the "Limited Slip Additive" but I'm leery.
I'm gonna use it and see if there's any change.
Anyone have any info on the "Quadrasteer" Lube??:dunno:

I went to my local Cadillac dealer last week to get new fluid for my car's rear end. The parts guy gave me 2 quarts of 75W90 Gear oil. When I asked about any friction modifier for the limited slip, he said I didn't need it. When I asked if this was indeed the correct item for the part number, he said it would be fine (but never said it was the correct item).

I left- went to my local Chevy dealer, who said they didn't have the part in stock. Ordered it - it wil be in soon.

Arrgh! I feel your pain!

Your Decision on the "Gear Oil" situation

HOMEGAMEROOM:

Your decision to wait was a wise one, as it seems that the Caddy Dealer didn't know his butt from regular gear oil.
I supplied the "Known" part numbers, plus their description/s....(#12378557 and GM #88862624.)
I've since replaced the "Old Stuff" with the new, and so far, everything seems to be quiet and proper.
BTW,....watch the "Dealer" on pricing. Should be about $25 a quart.....(Takes two)
Do you plan on doing it yourself?

Just want to say I had no noises but sharp turning felt like it was in 4 wheel drive with a hopping motion feel. The dealer had change the rear oil again for the second time from about a year ago back in January this year. As of to date it still smooth and no jerking feel. We drove to SC from PA an back plus the daily driving a is still ok. They said even on Corvettes they normally change it twice before it stops. Seemed to that should of been GM RECALL OR PAID THE BILL!

I also gave the parts guy the part number (at the Cadillac dealer; the Chevy guy was compliant!). I do plan on doing it myself; it's pretty straightforward. Open the fill port first (you don't want to drain it without being SURE you can refill it!), replace the fill port plug finger tight, open the bottom, then completely remove the top plug. This way it won't come gushing down tooo much when you drain it.

I believe my 04 uses a 10mm hex wrench. I have one that fits on the end of my socket wrench.
