Is there any suggestions from any of your past experiences on DO'S or DON'TS before I get this done.
Well got my wife Wendy talked into TINTING ROXY'S WINDOWS for my Birthday (a little early Birthday not to July)

I am NOT doing the back rear window because of seeing the windrestrictor at night, so he said he can do inner side of the windrestictor so when the top is up it will still help stop the light from coming into the car and also make it stand out more with top down. He gave me a price of $115.00 to do top of windshield (Bring it down a little lower), 2 side windows and back small triangles and the inner side windrestrictor

What % are you going with on the sides? I did 20% and love it. I've had 5% on my old seville.... NEVER AGAIN!!! To dark at night to see.

Looking for suggestions so you like 20% I believe they recommended 30 but not sure

Back in 08 on the way across the states heading for RII, I had my door, little side and rear windows tinted with 5% and it was a big mistake! The door windows were like mirrors at night making the side mirrors useless and the rear view mirror would not automatically change from day to night driving, which the latter wasn't much of a problem anyway.

In Calif., you CAN NOT have any kind of "Film, Clear or Tinted" on your front door windows and some Highway Patrol Officers will even make you pull off the freeway and have you remove it from your door windows while they watch! And if you do not have something to scrape it off with! And if you're in a city area, they will follow you to a store where you can purchase something to do the job!

On this trip, as soon as I crossed back into Calif., I was pulled over in Needles, Calif. while on I-40 and had to exit the freeway and purchase a paint scraper from a Hardware Store and remove the tint from my door windows while the Officer sat in his car and watched!
He was really a jerk and would make comments about people who could afford to drive expensive cars think that they're above the law and do not have to obey them! After scraping the tint off the windows, he then performed a complete safety check of ALL my lights etc. I thought he was going to have me take my car to a Smog Test Station and have to pay to have it tested!

This guy was really in a bad mood and seemed like he wanted me to do something wrong so he could impound my car and throw me in jail...

I checked with the state police they said its up to the inspection station to what the they/law allows, I check where I get inspection and the said they would inspect it and tinting guy recommended like 30% to be safe on the sides!

It's 35 percent I believe those percentage listed are what's being blocked by the 35 percent. Most tint shops have a window with all the shades applied to it so you can see the differences. Wanna go with a reputable film so it doesn't look purple in acouple.

Dan - be careful, I seem to remember discussions on the Pa trip that Pa doesn't allow ANY tint. It came from a pretty reliable source!

I did my home work! I called the PA state police, they said is not a police law and to check with your PA Inspection Station, and they said they will inspect it at the 35% or above so I should be ok! I scheduled it to be done this coming Monday, This place does vehicles & homes, He was doing 6 cars this afternoon so they must not be to strict about it here in PA if doing that many vehicles.

He actually pulled me over for the blue LEDS I put in the license plate and said that blue was fire and they were not legal but he wasn't sure about the WindRestrictor, Hatty said that it was ok!

even though you don't permanently live in CA??

I don't know if they stop out-of-state vehicles or not because of window tint. I do know that back in 85 when I drove my 85 Toyota MR2 that I purchased in VA. out here with VA. plates on it I wasn't bothered by any law officers until a registered it and had CA. plates on that car.

In 86 my wife and I took a road trip to TX. to visit some close friends and as soon as we crossed back into CA. on I-10 I was pulled over and given a 'equipment violation' ticket and had to have the tint removed and had to take the car to my local CHP Station for inspection. There wasn't any fine or anything because they had given me 30 days to have the tint removed and have it inspected and I took care of it in less than a week.

It seems to me that local police don't care to much about tinted windows, just the CHPs out in the dessert areas of CA. In the eastern portions of Southern CA., that's a lot of area. Perhaps they just get really bored because of the lack of traffic most of the time. IMHO

Some state laws, like KY, are more complex then what is listed here. If it is a "multi-purpose vehicle" the windows to the rear of the driver can be 0% if you want. A SUV or Pickup qualifies as multi-purpose, an XLR is not.

I think "improper equipment" citations have greatly reduced in recent years. I hear and see many violations that would have got me pulled over in a heartbeat a few years ago.

One thing I've always done when I tint window in my cars is take pictures of the car without tint. Take pictures with the side window half up so you can clearly see the windows. If you ever get pulled over just take the ticket. I would never have him make me scrap off the tints. Is that legal? Unfortunately you'll have to go to court,but when you do just show the judge that you cooperated with the laws and removed the tints with the pictures you took previous to the tinting. I've done that acouple time worked every time.

I've been pulled over having the old neon tubes on my car back in the day which were blue and the cop said that all blue and red lighting were for emergency vehicles period. I think if they wanna mess with you they can find reason somewhere with their bull---- tactics!

Somehow I don't think deliberately deceiving a sitting Judge by lying is a good idea.

I expect removing the film for the LEO was not a legal order but was a choice. The alternative was them impounding the car with its headaches, fees and possible damages, which is legal.
