XLR Pricing

Talk to me about that OnStar module upgrade. My '06 has the "olde" OnStar, and turn-by-turn is a kludge. I understand that the '07 model has the "good" turn-by-turn; i.e., that it works in an integrated fashion w/ the nav' system. Does a module replacement solve this? If so, what's the cost of the upgrade?

I have the old analog system. My dealer told me they would change this to the digital system for $200 which is the cost for 1 year of On Star's cheap subscription.

In the trunk on the driver's side there is a wheel well that holds all the electronics for the top, magnetic ride and so on........have the dealer pull the carpet back and look inside and check for water damage to any of the electronics. The electronics will look corroded if there is a problem. There is a tube in the bottom that is suppose to let any water out if any should gets in there but sometimes they get plugged up with dust, dirt and even leaves (so I've heard). This would be my first stop and then have the dealer run the service history from the VIN.

I went back to take a look at the XLR today and I was able to locate the electronic compartment, pictures made it easy When I lifted the carpet there was condensation under it. When I lifted the plastic cover there was condensation all inside the compartment and a layer of water in the bottom of the box. The drain hole looked clear but the way the rubber is around the drain hole it won't let all the water out. The electronics that are exposed didn't look to be corroded.
Questions??
Is condensation in this area normal?
Is the trunk area a problem for water leaking in? (Rubber seals etc.)
The car hasn't been used much with only 8000 miles could this be a problem with it sitting closed-up and creating condensation inside?
Should I stay away from this car and keep looking?

No, condensation in this area is NOT normal. I would somehow get the drain open, letting ALL the water out. Then, I would dry the area completely. Question... how deep is the layer of water in this area?
I only get water in my trunk when opening the trunk after it has rained; although I have learned to dry the trunk lid after it has rained before opening. The electronic area in my car has never gotten wet.
Shouldn't really matter about the car sitting closed up; mine sits the entire winter closed and covered and I have never seen condensation build up anywhere inside the car or the trunk area.
As far as staying away from the car; the electronics in this trunk area are mainly the top hydraulic pump system. It all depends on how deep the water is in this area; but as long as the top works correctly with NO problems, I don't see any reason to stay away from purchasing the car. That being said, I would have a dealer (that has an XLR tech on staff) check out the top system with a Tech II, just to make sure nothing is haywire. I would tell the dealer what has happened as far as water (how deep) getting into the top hydraulic pump area.

There isn't a rubber around the hole in my car is missing so there's just a hole there. It's bone dry and we've had rain and my XLR isn't a garage queen and not much melted so far.

The privious owner must have removed the plug or rubber tube that was there. Either way that area is bone dry and all of the connections look good.

I have found water in the other compartment and I don't see any drain plug/hole there but I'm going to put one there soon.

Just the first couple years had the rubber in the drain hole. My 07 just has a hole and several others have stated that they also did not have the rubber. From what I have seen I would think twice about buying a car that had had any water in that area. Search the forum and you will find some horror stories about water in this area,

Guy's remember we have got to keep these XLR's dry, stored in a garage in the winter and out of the rain. Otherwise, when they get wet enough eventually this happens (and you don't want that!).

The layer or water is just enough to cover the bottom, maybe a 16th". The rubber grommet that is inserted in the hole has a lip that's not allowing all the water out. I'm sure this is like this from the factory. It's possible that when the dealer washed the car water might have leaked in around the trunk seal and found its way there. That being said I guess there is a trunk seal problem also. Having a dealer check out this system with a Tech II before I purchased it would not be probable. (this car is being sold at a VW dealership)

But, if it was me dealing on this car, I would insist it be taken to the nearest Cadillac dealership and have the electronics checked out and be shown the Cadillac work order when completed; otherwise I would walk away and find another. If they want to deal on this car and end up possibly selling it to you, I would think the VW dealership (or whatever dealership) would not hesitate to do this. Yes, that is correct. I believe in either '06 or '07 GM did away with the rubber tube. After having trouble with small bugs, etc., getting into the rubber tube and clogging it up, they decided to go with just the 1/4" hole, which is much better.
