It's not too early to start thinking about The XLR's 10th Anniversary. Maybe we could have a BIG party in BG during that year's Homecoming Celebration. :rocker:

What a PERFECT setting for a 10th Anniversary celebration! I'm in!

OK - so here is a thought...

I'm not sure how many of you walked through the Corvette Museum this past weekend; but did you notice the Chevy Nova display, at the end?

What do you think about trying to work with the NCM (National Corvette Museum) about putting together a special 10th Anniversary Display down in Bowling Green for the XLR's? Obviously this will require a lot of effort on many people's part to use relationships and demonstrate an INTEREST among XLR and Cadillac owners, willing to support such a display. I'm sure the Corvette Museum will recognize the fact that this would not only be APPROPRIATE (since the XLR was built right there in Bowling Green), but also a means of bringing more people down to Bowling Green's economy and maybe gain some additional SUPPORTERS of the museum (which is a non-profit organization, relying on donations to operate).

Let me know your thoughts.

I think it's a great idea. We'll need to start working on our contacts @ The NCM ASAP.

I sent out emails today to most of the NCM board members about our XLR display idea. I have already gotten some positive replies. The idea will be presented to the Display Committee and hopefully we will get some good feedback from them. I will keep you posted.

it would be very cool if GM could display the Evoq showcar at that event!

Yes, it would be great to have the Evoq and VIN #1 XLR on display. We will first need to know that we have a secure location for these cars while in BG.

Great news!

I received an email from The NCM today about the XLR's 10th Anniversay display. They liked the idea & would like to have the XLRs on display on Corvette Blvd. inside the museum. This would be a great location to show off the XLRs! We still have a lot of details to work out, but 2014 will be here soon.
I'm thinking we may want to do an XLR Celebration Weekend that would be @ a different date than The Homecoming in July. What do you think?

It would nice to be held at some date where it wasn't so hot that trees were fighting over dogs!

Does anyone know what month and date the first XLR rolled off the line?

The first ones were built in Sept. 2003. That is why I was thinking of having the event either in Sept. or October of 2013.

The first weekend in October could be a pretty good pick. Probably would require lots of awesome presents and a big party for anyone having a birthday that weekend. Just a thought....

Sounds like a great plan" when ever it comes together!

I like the fall of 2013 idea, Bruce. Just a couple of events to keep in mind are: Funfest (Bobfest) is in Sept. and isn't the first weekend in Oct. usually the Corvette Assembly Club fundraiser car show? Maybe we can tie into that one - I'm perfectly fine with a week long celebration down in Bowling Green :D.

I'm good with whatever the group decides. Also - lets see what weekend options we have with the museum.

Thanks for your help on this Bruce - you and your contacts are an invaluable set of resources! We are so lucky to have to as part of our group! (you and Kathy both).:rocker:

OK - so Bruce has talked to the National Corvette Museum and they want us to come up with some possible dates to display our XLR's on Corvette Blvd. We were thinking of Sept or Oct of 2013 (plenty of time to plan). One thing I thought of, to help those who live pretty far away, is to try and tie it in with something else. So - Funfest (Bobfest) in 2013 is Sept. 19th, 20th, and 21st (Thurs, Fri, Sat) - so what about kicking off the XLR 10th Anniversary in Bowling Green on Thursday, Sept. 12th - through Sunday, Sept. 15th... then the following week, we head up to Funfest and continue the celebration. :rocker:

Another thought would be the 1st or 2nd weekend in October (trying to stay off of the weekend of Petite La Man in Atlanta).

What do you think? The sooner we land a date, the sooner we can reserve the spot at the Corvette Museum. Given this much notice, I think most people can reserve a spot on their calendar.

Please respond with your thoughts... this is for ALL OF US!

Plan "A"

I kind of like Plan A, the weekend before Bobfest and running the two events back to back. Considering many of us have a distance to go to get there, this option may make this possible for some that may not otherwise be able to do both!

There also is a few days in between were people could either choose to hang together or have a bit of one-on-one time with our respective sweethearts!

I can imagine how beautiful both the weather and scenery in Kentucky might be in early October!

I like this one. JMO Plus Graytoad has brought up a good point. Will this date work with the NCM?
:D
Thanks for working on this Bruce.

Whoever has interest in doing an event like this we need to know. It takes a lot to put this kind of thing together. You may think it's too early to start planning but it isn't . Calls get made now to get everything set up. So, speak now or forever hold you peace. :D
