XLR's 10th Anniversary Celebration Sept. 2013

I spoke to Bruce this morning (they are up at Road America) and when they were there this morning, Wendell, from the Corvette Museum, tracked him down and wanted to update us on putting together the XLR 10th Anniversary display in Bowling Green. They are very excited to host this for us - just need us to pick a date. I told Bruce that we should go with the Sept. 12th - 15th, 2013 dates as a first choice, 2nd weekend in Oct. as a back-up date.
Bruce will bring everyone up to speed on some of the musuem's ideas, when they get back from Road America.
This will not happen with just a couple of us planning it - we need a good amount of help from all of these awesome XLR owners on the forum here, to pull it off. I'm excited ... WHO'S WITH MEEEEEE!?

That is great! Cubby and I are excited about this. Whoever is on board got to speak up now. You may think you have plenty of time but we don't. It takes a tremendous amount of work to get these events together. This is going to be big.

I am on board with this event.

Am I correct that an XLR display will be set up in the museum? Although perhaps unworthy compared to what is already there, I am willing to contribute my XLR for display for any time period if wanted. Of course some of the special ones withheld from public sale are likely more interesting but I am in if it helps.

I also assume an XLR display would run a year? Maybe longer if this is well received.......

Steve - right now, the museum is offering to have the XLR's on display on Corvette Blvd (normally used for "Museum Delivery" cars) - right inside the doors, before you go into the museum displays and the gift shop. They say they can hold about 12-15 cars - they would be on display over the long weekend that we have our celebration going. Also, the museum is willing to let some of the XLR owners park their cars under the overhang area, right before you walk in the building (for those who might want to bring their cars home or to the hotel each evening - or cannot stay all 4 days). This is going to be real exciting - I'm glad you are on board with this as well. Thanks for your support! :rocker:

I spoke with the director of The NCM on Saturday, & he has already contacted a few of the people who worked on the XLR project, about attending the event. All we need to do is let them know what the dates will be. The NCM is really excited about The 10th Anniversary Celebration.

Bruce,

Since we do not seem to be getting any feedback on the date - let's just go with the Sept. 12th - 15th, 2013 date. Can you contact the museum and see if that date will work for them? Thanks for all your help on this - can't imagine how anything like this would happen without your contacts and persistence. THANK YOU! :blinzel:

Actually, there has been feedback and if you will review the posts, support has been expressed for both September and October. It doesn't really matter to me. My primary thought at this time is that either month should be nice, but it might be a little cooler in October. I agree that we need to settle on dates and then proceed from there.

Just in the event that it has not been implied by my posts in this thread, I am interested in participating in this event. I think that it has great potential to be a lot of fun and an event to remember!

Also, just to clarify, we are talking about 2013. 2014 was mentioned in an early post, but it was stated that the first production were built in September 2003.

I like the idea that we may be able to place some cars inside and some others outside as well. Do you think there might be some "jostling" to decide who gets IN? :slap:

Count me IN for this event!

Thanks CP for your feedback. Hopefully we will hear from more than 5 people on this event. I will contact the NCM about the dates. Who wants to help??? This event is for you guys.

Let's make sure we have a face to face :):D;) discussion about this at Bobfest. I still don't know anyone so when you can't put a face to a comment it is difficult to follow. ChicagoDave, I assume as you started this, you can lead that discussion? :worship: If in fact that this will be 2013 is there a way to change the title of he thread to reduce confusion?

I am hoping that everyone here on this thread are also is going to Bobfest? That would sure make discussions easier. As for helping, I will likely be onboard: again, I am new to this forum, big changes in our lives: where will I be? ... etc.

For those that would be traveling a great distance, that makes sense. I know Bob Leonard has worked hard with MAM and their Funfest to get a great showing of XLR's at the event and would be awesome to have just as many there after the 10th Anniversary celebration. A Mon-Wed. event in Bowling Green, then on to Effingham, IL for the Funfest and BOBFEST for Fri-Sun!!! That would be a great week--many would be ready to go back to work after that week--just to relax!:lol:

I like the idea however it makes it tough when both events are spread over two different weekends. Has there been any thought to trying to run both events back to back so that when we leave BG we head straight to Bob Fest. For those that are more than a days drive away from both events what are we to do between the last day in BG and the first day of Bob Fest? Ok who said sober up I heard you. :)

What kind of help are you thinking will be needed?

Here are some things that I can think of - that we would probably need assistance on for the weekend:

Getting a block of rooms from a local hotel (special discounted rate)
Coming up with an event "logo"
Dash Plaque (designing, ordering, etc....)
Tshirts or Polo Shirts for the event
Putting together an itinerary (dinner plans, possible Plant Tours, guest
speakers for "inside" info about the birth of the XLR, etc....)
Trasportation between hotel and museum (for those that are leaving their
XLR's in the museum during the event)
campaign to get people to attend (advertising or something I guess)

... just to name a few things off the top of my head... anything else you can think of Bruce? Feel free to edit them in.

Great idea, we need to give this some thought.:) We can discuss this @ BobFest.

MAM FunFest is scheduled for Sept. 20-22 2013.

this sounds like a lot of fun,two events!! I'M EXCITED,I'M IN!!! great idea, thanks

I know I talked about being interested at Bobfest and want to make sure it gets posted here for reference.

I'll help with something. Keep in mind that I am 3.5 hours from Bowling Green if it helps to make a personal appearance to settle something or actually lay eyes on a hotel or ??

The current cold snap (it will be in the 30's in Bowling Green tomorrow night) prompts me to think that September may be better solely from a weather standpoint. The ideas others have posted in favor of a SEP date also make sense to me.

I wonder when Steve's birthday might be...maybe October...:laugh::laugh:

Yea, but now it sounds like the 10 year celebration event and BobFest/FunFest may be doubled up into a back to back non-stop party running from Sept 13 through Sept 22 2013. This may yet call for an early party cake and presents for those deserving nearby birth dates....particularly if there is need for some kind of mid-week transitioning party between these special weekends. Just thinking of an excuse to keep partying if one is ever needed......
