My 05 seems to have developed an overheat condition. Only happens when I'm in traffic or driving at low speeds. The temp reaches 220, cant tell if fan is kicking in, don't hear it.
once I get up to speed it cools down. Can someone tell me at what temp does the fan kick in?

XLR uses a Variable Speed Cooling Fan Control system. The speed of the fan is controlled by several factors via the ECM (Engine Control Module.) It will be commanded to an ON state when:

1. Engine coolant reaches 204F, and switch to high speed when the coolant temp exceeds 235F.
2. Engine oil temp exceeds 302F will cause the fan to switch to high speed.
3. After the ignition is shut off, if the coolant temp is greater than 235F. After two minutes, the fan will shut off, regardless of coolant temp.
4. Transmission oil temp exceeds 270F.

Your thermostat may need to be replaced.

Or, your fan might have seized/failed. When the engine is very hot, the fan should be making noticeable noise. CC's comment also applies if the temperature is too low, 220 is in the normal range.

Thank you for the great info. I'll check it closer. I agree the t/stat probably needs replacing, may be hanging up.
