Grand Daddy are you & Caddilac Tech officially taking the lead on organizing this?

I won't be able to take the lead on organizing this event, but I will try and help out as much as I can.

I can help also but never organized and event of this magnitude! So do we have anyone out there interested in leading this event that has some guidelines on how to go about getting this event to happen???

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Perhaps if we get a few people to pitch in we can all organize bits of this. I happen to be sitting in a hotel in Bowling Green right now. We departed our home in Florida this morning at 5 am and rolled into here at 6:45 local time but 7:45 to us. Stopped by the Museum and snapped a picture of the XLR brick with my dog Max, then straight to the hotel which is 6 miles away from NCM which was closed. A bazillion Corvettes here, some sort of Vette thing going on this weekend, this is why we are 6 miles away! Scarfed some over cooked food at the Cracker Barrel (closest to our hotel, walking distance) Steve is already passed out in bed, and I am about to take Max for a walk.

Anyway, I will be happy to try to help organize this but I am CANADIAN: around 650 miles away from here. My plan is to attend this but my daughter-in-law is due with their first child on Sept. 4th and assuming all goes well I can attend this event.

If Bruce has contacts with the Museum and the plant then perhaps he can plan/schedule that part. Then we just have to fill in around that. I did grab some brochures in the hotel lobby to look through later. I am at the La Quinta at exit 22, the museum is at exit 28. I will let you know what I think of this place after we spend the night. Bruce had listed some other hotels but for this stay we needed pet friendly, the hotels near the museum were booked and we found this place via the internet. Leaving at 6 am tomorrow so we can make it home tomorrow night so I do not have any 'recon' time here in BG this trip. Restaurants are easy enought to figure out via the internet and peoples reviews, likewise destination drives etc.

Got to call it a night, TTYL!

PEOPLE: speak up if you are willing to help! :hearseespk:
Many hands make for light work: it is all about getting together and having fun! :party:party

Thanks Sandy have a great night sleep! Stay in touch we will get this all organized some how we need to so this can be a great event!

Well we arrive home safely, the hotel appeared nice enough, fairly new, clean & well lit parking lot, exercise room and indoor pool BUT it was not very quiet in our room. We were three rooms from the door off of the parking lot and the door slammed every time someone came in. No sooner I climbed into bed the room above us became occupied and we could hear them kick off ther shoes, the ceiling made a minor creak when they walked, I could clearly hear their TV. I swear they awarded the building contract to the lowest bidder. That was too bad, I had asked them to quote me on a group rate but I can't recommend it considering the non-quiet room.

Max approved the XLR Brick! I thought it was too bad that they didn't give us our own spot, there were number of other bricks that were centred between the curb and garden then some as ours that have two bricks from curb to garden. Other than that, it looked great!

Great :rocker: to see the rest of the ride home went smooth and made it safely! Been thinking about the fall gathering I was wondering if may be Hatty would be interested in giving a hand he did an excellent job on the "Kruzin The Keystone" PA trip! Also the place you stayed at you said was 6 miles away I would like to be close to NCM since that where we will be doing most of the functions and visiting! Do you know is the Corvette Plant close to there? Bruce was saying about a tour at the plant but as of now they are not doing tours for some reason :dunno:, but said later this year, but again they said not sure when? On another note I got an invite :blinzel: this pass week to enter Roxy in the CLC Cadillac LaSalle Club show at the AACA Museum in Hershey on July 12th that 2 days after my 56 birthday! I think that was one of the museums you all toured while on the "Kruzin The Keystone" PA Trip! Keep in touch!

The Bowling Green Assembly plant is just North of the NCM across 31W. They both are @ exit #28, the plant is on the north side of 31W & the NCM is on the south side of 31W, they are roughly .5 mile apart. They are not giving plant tours because they are updating the plant for the 2014 C-7. They hope to be giving tours again late Summer or early Fall. The hotels I listed earlier are the nicest in the area & would offer the best security for your XLRs. They are also closer to all of the resturants along Scottsville Rd.

That's exit #28 off I-65. I agree the hotels on Scottsville Rd are all nice. The hotels by whatever they called their event center, are nice. There is a hotel out by the plant and NCM, it's a Super 8 or something 6, It's just OK, a bed. Stayed there when we watched our "X" being built. Stick with the hotels on Scottsville Rd, like Bruce recommends! Closeness to the plant isn't a concern, it's easy to drive to the plant! It's just up I-65.

The Sloan Convention Center is the place you are thinking of. It is attached to the Holiday Inn. It is a very nice place for a group event.

I agree, no need to be right near the plant/museum as we would still have to drive and I personally would prefer to have a bit of a drive anyway: the further the better! :burnout:

I was also thinking if we can arrange a Corvette plant tour then perhaps we can also plan a reception/XLR car show at the plant and send an invitation to any employees that want to see the cars: those that just want to see what else the plant had built and hopefully also those who had been part of the build teams. If the Assembly plant would agree to this, they could post the event in their employee newsletter, hopefully that newsletter would also be sent to retired employees too. With luck the plant could provide a pop up tent or two, a couple of tables and we could arrange some munchies like veggie trays, chips and beverages (bottled water, soda etc). It wouldn't cost much, if we all pitched in $5. it would more than cover the costs of the foods which we could pick up at a local grocery store etc.

What do you think? These guys see Vettes all the time but they don't often get to see the XLR's they once built: I think there would be interest! :blinzel:

HILTONS, HAMPTONS & HOLIDAY INNS Have always been our choice of a decent stay, But not always the best deal. We personally like a hotel with a BEAKFAST AREA & a in hotel BAR for a couple of evening drinks before retiring for the night and then don't have to drive back to the hotel after drinking! We also only book at hotels with interior doors to the hallways to the rooms, we do not like the exterior access that go the outside parking lots or 2nd floor balcony's and usually have no elevators.

From our past years experiences of traveling along distance, where you have know ideal what your booking, we would definitely upgrade to a nicer hotel for the couple dollars more! The cheaper ones! Well what can I say other than :("YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!" :(

I agree with the idea of indoor halls, elevators and in house bar. This usually will get a lobby suitable for meetings, etc.

I think considering being a part of the existing show on the 28th is a great opportunity to save a lot of prep work and will get you at the factory without a headache. Just my $.02

The Bowling Green Assembly Corvette Club will be having their car show (open to all makes & models), on Saturday Sept. 28. You guys could take part in the show if you decide to be in BG that weekend. It's a very nice show held @ the plant.

Bruce, do you happen to know if that is more or less a local show? If so, that would be great, there would be lots of interesting vehicles! :burnout: Personally, I don't really want this event to be the same weekend if there is a big Corvette thing going on at the same time.

:rocker:This is similar to what we talked about in the beginning I think a Sat. would be good day to this although if the weekend of the 28th gets the most votes that would be the Corvette show weekend! I think also we need more XLR's there for our on XLR show event at NCM! Rob (Administrator) is going to do an Email and XLR & XLR-V Forum BLAST out to all for the voting poll for our event!
