We visited the Exotic Feline Rescue Center today in Center Point,IN. They are one of the largest rescue centers in the United States. They have 196 exotic felines that currently live there. www.exoticfelinerescuecenter.org. They go through 3,000 lbs. of meat a day!
The Lions are very vocal in the morning and evening when it is cooler. They also start roaring (they are very loud) when they hear the big H-D V-twin rumble, they don't pay any attention to the other bikes.
Here are some pictures;

The fences made it difficult to get good shots, but it did keep us from becoming a kitty snack.:lol:

We look forward to going back and seeing them again, maybe November.

Thank you for the compliment, Kris. The Lion with the open mouth was actually yawning. We could hear some of them "talking". A couple of my favorites are the Puma (in the 7th picture) and a Black Leopard, whose picture is not posted. He was behind 2 rows of chain link fence. It was very difficult to get good pictures of the cats due to the fencing. And visitors were required to stay 3 feet away from the fence.
The Puma is the only exotic feline to actually purr; which you could hear them doing when the guide would talk to them. Tigers act more like dogs, and lions act more cats as far as their behavior - Tigers lay & play in water, lions are rarely in water.
One enclosure had 8 tigers in it. They had just been fed...2 of them where chewing on a horse head. There are a lot of Amish around southern Indiana & they have draft horses like Belgians. For those of you who don't know, Belgians are very large. They can be 1,600 to 2,000+ lbs. The felines are fed recently deceased livestock.
I would encourage people to check out their web site - it is very interesting.

Kathy :)

Awe poor horses! But I love the leopards too! All of the Lions, Tigers, Leopards etc. are very interesting and beautiful animals. Thanks for sharing! :wave:
