My XLR/V(s)
2006 Infrared XLR (Beauty); 2008 GT500 (Beast); 2007 Black XLR-V (Victor)
I never named a car until I got my XLR - thought it was silly. But, when we got it, we already had a Shelby GT500, which is a loud, obnoxious, barbarian of a car. The contrast of the XLR next to it made me think of "Beauty & the Beast" - & there you have it, both names stuck to each car.

I've now gotten carried away & named my daily driver. The last one was Dirtmobile, to contrast it's usual condition to the XLR, & the current CTS Coupe is Fanny in honor of it's big rear end. :chuckle

So, if you've named your XLR, what's your story? I know some of the names out there & I'm definitely curious as to where they came from.

When I first got mine, the neighbors had a party that I took it to and they said I needed to name it after a stripper. Hence--"Tiffany" became the name they gave it and it has stuck ever since.

All of Supa & I's cars have names--don't know why; they just do.

The XLR-V, our red-headed stepchild, is Scarlett-V, her brother, the CTS-V is Spencer-V. Supa's SHO is Ginger (It's a Cinnamon color) and the DD, a Ford Expedition is Brutus. He's been hit four times, over 100,000 miles and just keeps taking the abuse I give him!

Tell the real story, Marc!! Named after your Wisconsin girlfriend, isn't it??:laugh:

Ours is the Gray Jewel because it's Thunder Gray and in the sun it shines like a diamond with all of the metal flake that's in the paint.

Ah yes... Thunder Gray...

Mine too is "Thunder Gray" and she's named "SPARKLE" because THAT is what she does....lol.

Eric.

Seriously?

Okay, we name all our cars. The XLR is Ondrya Wolfson, but we just call her Ondrya. She's the main girl in the song Valley Girl, written by Frank Zappa. Since we live in the Valley, and are huge Zappa fans, and the car is clearly a girl, it just fit.

Bruce
fer sure...

Well funny this discussion just popped up about naming our cars we were just talking about this the other day among some car friends and in the movie with Nichols Cage his bad ass 65 Shelby the last car he steals he calls her Eleanor and they name other cars in the movie too, I always said when I buy my dream car I was going to name it too. Roxy of course is known as stylish uptown hot chick that just look fabulous, and we think that way about our XLR so that's where ROXY's got her name from!

Saw a movie once called " Stella got her grove back". If you seen the movie it's about a well educated middle age business women that wants to spice up her life by dating a guy twenty years younger. NICE! Well that's how I felt looking at my caddy. "Drooling" like a dog every time I open the garage door. Ahh Stella.

That was one of the names I was curious about. Cool explanation & I had no idea!

Our only unnamed car is our version of Cubby's Brutus, except it doesn't even get the privilege of being named - a 9 year old SUV, bought used & only waxed once but body damaged twice. Maybe we should name it "Bunny" since most recently it was used for testing interior cleaning products to be sure they wouldn't damage the XLR's ...

I tried the process how porn stars come up with their names.
First street name you lived on and your first pets name.
That would make my name jasmine Linder or Linder jasmine. Didn't flow right but it could work.
I call my everyday work car my caddy which is a acura. Go figure?

You might find it interesting that the "original" Gone in 60 seconds was released in 1974. It was a relatively low-budget movie made by Toby Halicki. I remember seeing the movie in the theatre.

The cars were named so that any communication about the cars that was overheard or intercepted would not give the game away. Just as in the Nicholas Cage version, "Eleanor" was the last car to be acquired. However, in the original version, "Eleanor" was a 1973 Mustang, yellow in color.

In all the years since 1974, my best friend and I always refer to a yellow 1973 Mustang as an "Eleanor".

Huuummmm! Interesting I did not know that! Thx for sharing

I call mine Red Jewel... for the same reason - Shines like a jewel... and almost exactly like a garnet in color.

In a garage full of black Cadillacs, "Beauty" is the obvious choice, though when acting tempermental/giving me grief it has been referred to as Darth V!! Most of the time it's just called "The Toy" because that is what it is - not terribly practical in ice bound Ohio but the ultimate smile-maker none the less. Example = went to the storage garage yesterday to check on battery tender etc and fired her up - the initial burst of sound as she cleared her lungs before settling into a purring idle was enough to make my day complete! Counting the days until back on the road!!

I've had a few black beauties... But I think my favorite was a Cadillac Sedan Deville, her name was "Ebony" and I had a 74 Cutlass 442 named "Onyx".... I guess at times we have to be a little creative, huh?...lol.

In the shed....

Along side the XLR "Sparkle" we have Lincoln MKZ named "Champagne" and my hunter green Eddie bauer Expedition and quite naturally her name is "Envy"...lol. Envy (16).jpgChampagne (23).jpgSparkle (6).jpg

I agree there's nothing like the joy of hearing that V8 roar to life.

I've sometimes said we should have named Victor-V "Demon V" because of its black paint & what a pain it is to deal with. More power to folks who collect black cars!

There for a while I was wondering if the most common XLR name was going to be related to color or stripper names :chuckle - getting a little variety now!
