New to the XLR, I was wondering why, after the top is down, one cannot place narrow, low profile objects in the space under the top in the trunk area?

There would probably be no problem at all; although I would remove the items before I raised the top.

Use that area at your own risk! I have placed things there, but always remember to remove them before operating the top!!! As the top moves to go back up and even going down, it comes very close to bottoming out so it may catch the item you have under there.

Exactly... my problem would be remembering to remove the items. You know what they say, "Memory is the second thing that goes as you get older..."

Thanks

ThAnks for the replies. thought that might be the case but needed some info from those that done it.

Will keep it in mind.

When I do that I lay the cargo lid panel down flat and let the back rest against the cargo meat net, then the top will not work until you snap it back in the slots it also gives you more room place thing in there. Just keep in mind if you run into rain storm you need to move everything to put the top up!

Good idea, Dan. That way there is absolutely no way you would forget to remove the items.

I use my area to stow the car cover opened up flat as possible when on a trip. I like the idea of leaving the divider down so I don't forget.

My problems is just the opposite. My top is never up. Unless its raining or I'm at a friends house where I leave in his car.

Me too. I'm talking about stowing the cover under the roof in the trunk.

On a resent trip, with the top up, I placed a box of cocolates and a bottle of wine in the trunk. I did't know then but I do now, the floor gets hot! The bottle of wine blew its cork and metal cover and the candy is something to see! It took me a couple of hours to clean things up but the smell is there and only time will remove that.

This is interesting in that on a trip to Oregon last year, I brought back home cases of wine. Not one bottle blew. In 2009, I carried a full case of Cabernet to San Antonio, TX in the heat of the summer and not one bottle blew.:dunno::confused:

May be the answer is cases but agree that does seem strange unless the single bottle was getting shakin by its self!

The bottle was warm and the candy was/is melted. The wine was in a plastic bag on its side. I had a bag there trying to prevent things from rolling around.. Maybe the shaking is what caused it :dunno:

I really don't know being this was our first trip. The floor gets warm and anything that I put in there picks up the heat. Is this common for the XLR?

To tell you the truth, I've never noticed. I've had many items in the trunk at various times during long trips and never noticed anything warm when I've removed anything. :dunno:

I have noticed some heat. I guess the light stats on when the trunk is closed lol. But it also could be from the exhaust too. Since the pipes are right there and the rear axle is spinning so fast. Combine both those with the gas tank and all three could be the culprit. But that's my idea. It could be due to anything

Yes all trunk & console heat come from the exhaust heat! Roxy going in Monday for the gas gauge repair so when they drop out the rear end & exhaust to get to the gas tanks I'm having the H pipe and probably the axle hump pipes to the mufflers ceramic coated too, this should reduce the heat almost in half they said and they are also installing the sway bar while it on the lift!!.........

HOT HOT HOT!!!:reddevil

Yes, everything in the trunk comes out very warm: when you arrive at a hotel etc, more-so than any of our other vehicles. Have you ever noticed how ****y warm a bottle of water gets in the console if you dont drink it reasonably quickly? I guess it is a good way to keep you coffee warm though!

I keep thinking if I ever have to remove the console for anything I will add some heat shield product in there, likewise under the carpet in the back. Better yet would be some of that spray on heat shield stuff on the undercarriage. It is one of the design flaws of this car.

Try spraying the trunk with some sented Lysol.

I had to clean up a mess one of my grand-children made in the back of my 04 Chevy Impala LS and the vomit smell won't go away after 3 carpet cleaning.
My Detailer was going out of he head until someone told him about the Lysol. (Kills germs that causes odors.:blinzel:)

I learned about the regular Lysol when I worked in Aero-space and had to fly all over the country and drive rental cars that people smoked in with the AC running. The first thing I'd do was to run the AC at full speed and spray the Lysol into the air intake in front of the windshield. In those days, they didn't make sented Lysol like we have today so the first couple of hours in the car I had to drive with all the windows down and the AC running a full speed because the Lysol smell was so strong but it wasn't as bad the sickening smell of the stale cigarette smoke!
