Need to set priorities

The poll for the date of our Colorado event closes on the 14th of July. I think we then need to decide who will help make contacts to the area hotels for rates, someone to keep track of the people who will be attending (although RA looks to have that covered) and others to look into the sightseeing, drives etc. we want set-up.

Anyone interested in helping should post on this thread and then we can PM or email to keep things organized. Does this all sound good to everyone.:dunno:

That sounds like a plan. I'm already looking forward to this trip.
SIGN ME UP, RUTH ANN :rocker:

Sure ... all of that sounds perfect.

It makes good sense for me to keep the Attendance List ... I don't work, and am available to a computer most always.

The online agenda seemed to work out very well for our last event. How about we work it the same way?

I will provide a link to the FIRST POST OF THIS THREAD. That will provide the most current information.

Cubby - it's great to have someone start the ball rolling ... :worship:

First Robin already has a handle and formed some good relationships with a couple of hotels .... what are your thoughts on that Robert? Remember, it's okay to bow out (gracefully, of course) .... but we hope you won't. :)

Okey-doke .... let's :rocker:!

First..... WE NEED A NAME!
Do we need a poll? Or can we agree on Cruzin' to Colorado 2010 ?
(I think MadMac, our newest member came up with that ... )
Easy to refer to ...CC10
I'll go with that ...
thoughts?

That is perfect Ruth Ann. I'm sure Photo Girl and others will be googling for things to do while we are out there. First Robin if you still want to do the hotel searching let us know and if you'd like help let me know--more than willing to help.

Now that Lil' Woman is on here more than working for me, I can delegate something for her to do also. :chuckle:chuckle

Unlike some I do work and am very good at my job, but can help out anytime you need me, just let me know.

Madam I think CC10 works just fine. First Robin I agree with everyone that has posted above.

Yes dear.

I have a serious question, how many days do you plan to be in Colorado and what day of the week do you want to arrive? After we determine the dates I can give you a list of various things you might like to do while you are here or I can give it anytime you would like it. Some might require driving 105 miles one way, nice day trip and some are much shorter and some just stay in the local area. This is your vacation and your pleasure as to what you want to do but there can be several choices on the same day and each one (or two since the little girls and boys hold two) can decide what they want to do and on what day. Does that make sence?:):):)

Works for me... hopefully the same thing that happened in SA doesn't happen in CS... that is, 3 people showing up for a drive that 14 had signed up for... then the others going later. I don't know about anyone else, but it would have been cool to see 14 on the road at the same time. I really enjoyed the caravan from Las Cruces to SA with only 7 in a row...
Since I also work for a living... I will do what I can. Just let me know - although I'm not on the computer on weekends at all...

Here's my thought on how many days ... I liked the event being a 3-dayer .... but I also liked having the option of a reduced rate for either coming in a day early, staying a day later, or both. Since I've not negotiated hotel rates before, I don't know if that is possible. Although the Hilton did give me both of those options. Actually, I ended up paying a lesser rate than the negotiated price because the hotel never booked up, travel/tourism is down, and I checked for current and senior rates before we left San Diego. So, if this was open for an opinion, that is mine.
Your thoughts?

Until someone makes a different decision, I will be refering to this as CC10.
"Cruzin' to Colorado 2010" .... :)

MTrocket ... I think it's time to let what happened in SA stay in SA ... can we agree?

Colorado is a two-day drive each way for us MMs. I really liked what we did in SA. Arrived on Tuesday and left on Sunday. (Memorial Day Weekend.) If the official event time is a little shorter, that's OK. I'd like the extra days if everyone can take the time.

AGREED... on all counts. I also like "Cruzin' to Colorado 2010"... also makes future years easy to name "Cruzin' to ?? 20??".

The poll is dates are Sunday to Sunday (7days)

As George stated earlier, the Midwest Marauders make these events one of our main vacations of the year. We also take two days each way to travel if it is over 1,000 miles. That being said, I think all the MM's will stay a minimum of five days. I'm sure it doesn't matter to us if it is a three day event--we will just be there early or later; depending on what is worked out.

As far as the hotels and getting rates, once we have the dates and approximate head count; now is the time to contact them. With the economy being down, if we can get a committment early it's hard for them to change if the economy gets better by the time our trip is.

The daily trips aren't as critical for sign-up, as you're not paying for something or getting a discount for more people to go. Set times also don't tend to work well for big groups, some are always on time some are always late--and no this comment is not directed at anyone, just speaking form experience with groups.

#1. Air Force Academy, especially the Chapel

#2. Olympic Training Center

#3. Royal Gorge, continue on to Salida up the Bighorn Sheep Canyon.
Lunch at the Winery and then drive back by way of Hiway 285 & 24.
This drive will take you past the Collegiate Peaks, declared a Scenic
Highway, a lot of 14,000 feet peaks. May see a herd of Buffalo on
the way back to Colorado Springs, possibly hot air ballons.

#4. Cripple Creek to the Casino's, if it rains, look for Torquoise in the dirt.

#5. Colorado Springs Zoo. Will Rogers Shrine

#6. Walk around at the Broadmoor Hotel.

#8. Visit the sculpture gardens close by and drive on up to Helen Hunt Falls, maybe with a picnic lunch.

#9. Pikes Peak, North Pole, Cliff Dwellings

#10. Cave of the Winds

#11. Garden of the Gods

#12. Shopping in Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City, plus lunch.

#13. Cog incline, Manitou Sprngs

#14. Downtown Colorado Springs, lots of places for lunch.

#15. Drive to Bishop's Castle in the Wet Mountains Region, Day Drive.

#16. Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.

And there are more, I just can't think of them right now. This is a start.
Wow Foxy Robin you do have a good start there.:worship: Please don't think I'm stupid here's my question. How can we check these places on the internet? Is there a tourism site for Colorado or just look up each one individually? I don't mean to sound stupid just asking. Thank you Foxy Robin.

I googled Colorado Springs and came up with Colorado Springs travel site - www.experiencecoloradosprings.com
