In 2013 we had a 10 year anniversary plant homecoming meet, that was a blast! Caddy started making our cars in 2003 for model year 2004, that's why we had the meet in 2003. How about we start planning a 15 year anniversary plant homecoming for 2018 now? The wifey and I are really missing our annual little car trips. I know that the last few XLR trips we had, we were REALLY spoiled by everything being planned out (THANKS Dave, Amy & Mike, and Bruce & Kathy for all the work you guys have done!! It was great!). Maybe for this meet we won't need someone to plan it all out. We just need a hotel deal, where we could all stay (like all our other BG trips). A tour of the plant. Heck..... Maybe if we time this meet the right time of the year, GM could preview their 2019 Vette to us, (Mid engine maybe?? HMMM.) Maybe a place where we could have a Meet & Greet Supper. One meal out at the state park, (what's the name of that place? I forgot.) What does everyone think??

You have a great idea, except for making me realize holy cow, it's already been almost 5 years since the last BG anniversary??!!

:jaw: :jaw: :jaw:

I would be interested but would like 3 or 4 days of site-seeing to make it worth the trip out. Is anyone local that can do some of the planning?

Other activities

It would be nice to see some of the caverns, tour a distillery or other fun activities!

I think there is a cave, North on I-65. We were always going to go there, but didn't find the time. Ohhhhh,,, a distillery!! That would be neat! Is there any close by?

Chad

Activities

Mammoth Cave is right off I-65 just north of BG. Jim Beam and Markers Mark are near Elizabethtown. Louisville has several distilleries worth visiting plus the Louisville Bat Museum. Amazing to see Ty Cobb's and Babe Ruth signature on the same wall. :thumbsup

Chad, you should take charge of this......you're retired. It will keep you out of Rogene's hair!!:lol::lol: The convention center hotel is probably the best bet. As others have stated, you would have to schedule things to do to make it worth the while to travel to BG. I tried to set up a Cave tour at the last one, but nobody showed interest, so we didn't do it. Nashville isn't too far either, so you might want to try a day trip there too,

Tim, if you do the Mammoth Cave tour, you wouldn't need to go to Louisville.... you see all the bats you want:lol::laugh:

We are certainly up for a trip, but don't have time to help plan it, too busy at work!!

If we have this, it will be in Sept. 2018. I just thinking of a long week end event Looking back at the 10th reunion, I see that we had it during the BG Corvette assembly plant club car show with Dave Chrisley help. Is he still around? (HELP), is his E-mail address listed for the 10th reunion thread still good?. The plant show looks like it about the last week in Sept. MAM looks like it's about the second week end in Sept., I sent a Contact E-mail to MAM to find out when it is in 2018. So if we don't want to collide with anything, it would have to be the 2nd (8th) or 3rd (22nd) week end in Sept, (I know we can't please everybody on a date no matter what we pick). I found the hotel links listed, on the 10th reunion thread. If we have enough response to this, I can see what the hotels can do, but some of you guys are better at the hotels than me because you travel a lot and you have contacts. Dash plaques, I'm NOT a designer, you don't want me doing something like that, can one person just take over that responsibility? And the same for the polo shirts, design and ordering, just need one person? Need to contact NCM, GM, (how do you do that?). I'm thinking maybe a trip to the cave and maybe Makers Mark. Haven't a clue about any dinner places yet. Let's make this a GROUP project! What's everybody think??

Dash plaques & hotel

I'll talk to Bob W about dash plaques.

The hotel we used last time was fine with us. What do the rest of you think?

In 2013 we had the meet greet evening dinner at a restaurant right behind the hotel I don't remember the name, but I know there was a fire there afterwards, but heard they did rebuild it, also we had stayed an extra day after the event and drove down to Nashville TN it's only about an hour drive, but we didn't really have a lot of time there to tour so there is plenty to see there! We had lunch at the Jimmy Buffets Restuarant that day then head back towards home! Also can't forget the Corvette police car escorted parade to the Saturday night dinner.... Good Memories! I Retired from my business on June 30th too..... so if you need help let me know! I know it's still over a year away but no harm in getting a jump start! I didn't mention this yet to the wife but I'm thinking if she can get the time off we be in on this trip too!

I think it might have been at Barren River Lake State Park.

Park pass!

I'm think one of the things we can do on this trip is visit Mammoth Cave National Park. If you are 62 or older, get one of these National Parks Lifetime passes for $10 (plus $10 handling fee), before 8/28/2017! After that the lifetime Senior pass price goes up to $80. Here's the site:

America the Beautiful Passes (U.S. National Park Service)

Do it now!!

But I just became 60 in July! What the cost for regular adults?

Ok did some research this morning and we did stay in 2013 at the Hilton Garden Inn on Wilkinson Trace and there was a few that had stayed next door at Marriott because having points they could use! The first group gathering night dinner was behind the hotel which we just had a short walk out the back of hotel across to the Montana Grill I remember we packed the whole one side of the restaurant. As usual with a group that large some meals got mixed up and held up, but I do believe the food was fairly good! The hotels is not to far from NMC and across the highway from the Museum is the Corvette Plant!

We're in!

At least at this point, the wife & I are in for this type thing. Been wanting to go cruise around the Smokies anyway, so this would fit right into that.

I don't know that we have to be tied into September - think the last anniversary ended up linked to the car show for "something to do" -- maybe later Sept-early Oct would be better temperature-wise & perhaps drives through fall foliage color change ... just a thought.

At at least it looks like the plant shut down to retool for the next generation of Corvettes has already happened this year, so hopefully that's out of the way for next year. :thumbsup
