Help! Melted Headlights?

In reviewing the many valueable articles in this Forum, I note references to Melted headlight Lenses.
Can someone post a picture of this and tell me what conditions cause it and if it is a fault of all years of the XLR. Does it happen with stock bulbs?

I would also like direction to obtaining brighter Driving Lights in the lower facia. Links I found no longer exist.

What melts or cracks are the DRL's/turn signal lights, which are separate from the headlights. I don't have pictures, but I've seen them and the yellow disk just looks slightly melted, sometimes has some black in it too. I think this is only a problem with the '04-05 stock lights, although one member with an '06 said he had it happen to his after driving for 10-12 hours. The ones on my '06 are fine, but when I took it on a 7 hour drive I turned on the fog lamps just to be on the safe side (that cut off the DRL's).

I think with an '08 you should be pretty safe from this problem.

I don't know anything about your other light question.

I was told they call this DRL problem "CRAZING" it was suppose to be the color of bulb had caused it, not thing to do with heat melting the lens and only in 04 - 05 I had my 05 replaced by dealer. Sorry no pictures either but they turn light yellow/brownish color and mine had a horizontal crack in round center part!
I have no info on brighter driving lights! I just wish my 01 Sportrac had as much light as the XLR

Thanks D&W. In one of the Forum Threads in the 'teen' pages I think, there was mention of HID lamps for the Driving Lights. Good pictures before and after. Sadly the link does not work.

HID fog lights

You're right the links don't work. Google dmm tuning and you should be able for find them.
When you find it you want replacement for 9045 fog lights.

If you look at your headlights theirs the large "headlight bulb" then above that theirs a round clear ripped plastic lens that's covering a yellow bulb. Above that it says xlr on the chrome. That yellow bulb is your DRL'S and turn signals. That lens will burn,melt,crust,craze,glaze? You'll know if yours are affected when you look. All the parts in that headlight should clear,or the reflective plastic.
I just replaced the bulbs in my lower fascia " foglights" last year. I used a halogen bulbs. The number is a h12 it's 53 watts and its super white color. The color,hue are identical to the hid headlights. I got them on ebay paid like 8 dollars to my door. Didn't need to splice in ballast, plugged into the factory clip and clips right into the back of the lens.

Exactly what I am looking for. Do you remember a brand name? Sylvania? In my Denali I run 100 watt spots (aircraft landing lights)
4" size. Great for those darker country roads and road hogs... Thanks Stella.

Yes they were sylvania bulbs. I just stayed close to the factory wattage so their were no problems with heat. I also put my fog lights on every time I drive. It can be high noon and I will have them on I'm not taking any chances.
So you know the years that Cadillac was having the problem with the melted headlights they updated the wiring by putting in some type of resistor or harness that was suppose to solve that problem. Luckily for my 04 it had the update installed back in 05 so hopefully no worries.
