Bruce, do you happen to know if that is more or less a local show? If so, that would be great, there would be lots of interesting vehicles! :burnout: Personally, I don't really want this event to be the same weekend if there is a big Corvette thing going on at the same time.

My name is not Bruce, but I know that it is a local show. What do you consider a "big" Corvette thing? Every weekend in the summer has something going on there.

Well it certainly seems this event will be the last weekend of September or the first weekend in October. I am wondering if the poll should be reposted to just those two dates and to clearly state for everyone who wants to attend to re-vote, not so much a 'preferred' weekend but to check which weekends they could actually attend. We need to clarify if the reason the Sept dates did not get as many votes is just due to preference or because they actually could NOT attend on the Sept weekend.

I like the idea of joining in on an ongoing show at the plant, with tours etc. I was going to suggest if someone could find out if there were any other car shows or cruise nights going on in the area that we could attend etc.

Thanks Fred. That would be a great show to attend and I am sure there would be plenty of Corvettes there too, but also lots of other makes and models. I am sure there are always lots of Vettes at any show in BG. I had not seen the posting Bruce had done until you mentioned it.

I have found that the C5 & C6 group for the most part do not acknowledge anything other than other same generation Vettes. We have owned a 67 small block Corvette roadster for nearly 20 years and quite frankly: for the most part we really don't understand Corvette folks we refer to as Corvette Weenies. The C3 crowd dont talk to the C4 and the C5's dont like the old cars.......... Yes, I realize the irony in my criticizing them for being snobbish and critical of others.....

Anyway, I think it woulld be great to drive in en-massee to this show!

If the poll is run again then I suggest there should be selections for "Either Date" and "Neither Date" in order to cover all the bases.

It is a local car, truck & bike show. They use it to raise money for a couple of local charities. If the XLRs attend there will be a sperate class for them. I will try & get a hold of the club today.

I got some information from Dave about the car show on the 28th of Sept. The club would love to have you guys @ their car show. If there's 10 or more XLRs in attendance, they will have a seperate class just for the XLR. Dave also has a special room rate @ The Courtyard by Marriot, he will check on the price & get back with me.

If a date needs to be picked for the XLR Homecoming 2013, I would say this would be a great weekend. There are a lot of you guys that have been silent, we need to know who is intersted in attending this event, & who wants to HELP.

Yes i agree. But I'm sad that i can't attend this great event. The reason is I'll be on a cruise during this time :ugh:. but please take pics and post them.

I agree, this would be the weekend to have it, as Dave puts a lot of work into these events for his club. He has asked us XLR owners many times to come down and be a part of this event. Plus him having rates at the hotel, takes care of one of the aspects of our trip. Dave is also a retired Bowling Green Corvette plant employee and probably will have tours planned and possibly a reduced rate at the NCM as well. That would leave little to do to make this a great event. Some may even want to plan a trip to Nashville for the weekend--it's only an hour away!!

I'd love to be able to help out, but work has me buried, working 55-65 hours a week right now.

I think this would be the way to go but, would like to see some kind of function at NCM Thursday, Friday or Sunday!
Also what is the hours of the 28th show?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thanks Dan

Thursday & Sunday would be travel days for most people that will be attending. Thursday night could be a welcome dinner @ some place like Montana Grill or Raferty's. You could do a farewell breakfast on Sundy morning @ The University Plaza Holiday Inn (we did that @ RIII). The show on Saturday the 28th will be from 9:00 - 3:00. There could be a group dinner later that day @ WahBah's.
There could be a drive up to Maker's Mark Distillery on Friday sometime. Visit the NCM during the day on Friday.

The GM room rate for the weekend of Sept. 26-29 is $92 a night @ The Courtyard by Marriot.

Looks like I am changing my plans to make sure I can make it down to Dave Chrisley's Car Show. What a great opportunity to actually be able to SHOW my XLR at the actual PLANT that built 'er.

Unfortunately because of this weekend being at the end of the month, I will not be able to add any extra days before or after - but I will definitely be down there Sat. morning for the show.

For those of you that are traveling longer distances, this particular weekend is the following weekend after BOBFEST (Corvette Funfest) - so make it a 10 day vacation to this part of the country.. It sure would be great to have a good representation of XLR's at Dave's Car Show at the plant. For those that attended the Corvette Homecoming show a couple of years ago - it sure was great seeing so many XLR's together. Let's see how many we can get!

While I would love to see a full blown 10th Anniversary Celebration for the XLR down in Bowling Green, the truth is, unless someone steps up (with the knowledge, experience and contacts) and puts together a full event, I think we are really looking at a good "Cruise In" kind of get together - which I am fine with... as I have said before; the most wonderful part of owning my XLR, is all of the wonderful friends that I have met along the way - both, those that own XLR's and those that don't- but LOVE the XLR, all the same!

I will call the Courtyard Marriott tonight to make my reservations for Friday night and Saturday night (Sept. 27th/28th). Hope you ALL join us! :blinzel:

Dave & Bruce
As I said from the start I want this to happen no matter what it takes! Us XLR Owners deserve this chance of a life time to show off our rides at THE (NCM) NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM IN BOWLING GREEN, KY. In a hopefully large group. What needs done, where do we start I am willing to squeeze what I can into my busy schedule! I am NCM Member so I can contact them which I already had spoke to them about a Event there an they said we could work out something , but I don't want to (step on anyone toes) or make decision for everyone else! "WE NEED FEEDBACK FROM THE GROUP MEMBERS" and what else they may be interested in doing! The longer this drags on the harder it is to get things set up an scheduled!

IMHO.....

I think we should take advantage of the Bowling Green Assembly Corvette Club Show and use their connections and expertise. Do we really need more than a place to gather? This could be a chance to exhibit to some of the employees and local residents that may not otherwise get much exposure to XLRs. It would certainly lighten the load of coordinating everything and is at the factory. I really enjoy sharing with non-XLR people too.

I don't have a lot of interest in separate trophies or classes for our cars, but will "go with the flow" on that.

As much as some think that the NCM owes us something because our cars were made there, they really do not. It is the National Corvette Museum, not the Bowling Green production museum. Anything they do for non-'vettes is a token. That is not to say that we couldn't gather there for some pics.

The earlier the date the more likely it will be drier and warmer for some topless driving. Always a good thing.

It may be an advantage or disadvantage for those traveling a long distance. I don't know and will let those making the trip comment on that. I can certainly offer at least a list of things to do and see in the general area for those wanting to fill some time between the two events. A few things come to mind depending on what the interests are; Pork Chops and Key Lime Pie at Patti's at Land Between the Lakes, Makers Mark Distillery tour (no there are not samples :) ), Kentucky Horse Park, Churchill Downs or Keenland Race Tracks, Mammoth Cave, Tail of the Dragon, Nashville, Beale St. in Memphis, etc.etc. Just let me know what floats your boat. My point is that there is a lot to do within a couple/few hours from Bowling Green.

I first voted for OCT 4-6, but now think this one makes more sense, unless it creates a problem with those traveling, enough to limit participation.

Well said Phrede, thanks for your input. The best place to display your beautiful cars is @ the plant where they were built. The NCM will be happy to have us visit & will help where they can. The NCM will be a good gathering place. Dave Chrisley is working on getting some of the former XLR workers & engineers to attend the show along with former plant manager Wil Cooksey.

I'll have a Sharpie and a spare at the ready

There is nothing better than being invited and wanted at a car event. I am all in to join up and be part of the September 28th weekend. Unless other mandates prevent me from coming I will be there. Would love to see many of you good folks there also...... may be the best (or only) chance to get together this year. This sounds like nothing but fun!

Steve

I was initially thinking the October date but I really like the idea of being part of the Sept 28th show so I say let's do that weekend! I think we should get a better sense of when people would like to arrive. For me, if I am travelling 12 hours to go somewhere I would like more than two full days (plus a few hours on arrival & departure days), but that is me, as I am retired and can add extra days.

It appears that now we know about the show on the 28th, the group is all sliding to that weekend. Is it possible to have the survey thing changed to The weekend of October 4-6 'Who is planning on coming', followed by likely arrival date & general time -morning-afternoon-evening and likely departure day. (officially, I assume it is Sunday but perhaps a few others would stay another day too)
