15th year BG plant homecoming reunion Sept 26 - 28 2018

I don't know that we have to be tied into September - think the last anniversary ended up linked to the car show for "something to do" -- maybe later Sept-early Oct would be better temperature-wise & perhaps drives through fall foliage color change ... just a thought.

At at least it looks like the plant shut down to retool for the next generation of Corvettes has already happened this year, so hopefully that's out of the way for next year. :thumbsup

Count us in. Sounds like a great time.

05 Grand daddy just mentioned this to me. So I marked it mentally and wrote it down on both calendars. Hope to make it to this one. It'll be great to put a face with everyone here on the forum.

I did do some research on this trip today. I called the Hilton Garden inn, it's across the street from the Sloan convention center, and asked above setting up a group buy. Sounds like it's fairly easy to do, but, I'm to far out. They can only set something up if it's within a year, and I need to know the dates, in which we haven't settled on yet. The saleslady did say that it would be easier if we didn't schedule this the same day as a WKU football weekend, they haven't put out a 2018 football schedule yet, I looked on their web site. I also tried to contact Dave Chrisley of the Bowling Green Assembly Corvette Club, to find out when their September car meet is, no word back yet. We may or may not want to be in their meet. But once again we haven't set any dates for this yet. Also haven't heard back from MAM about when their meet is in September in Effingham, IL. I know some people like to go to that meet. Let's keep plugging away!!!

Chad

Another update. I heard back from Dave Chrisley, Bowling Green Assembly Corvette Club. He, or some of his associates are willing to help us get this event set up. The BGACC event is always the last weekend in September. If this group let's us in their event, that means we'll have to have this trip the weekend of the 29th. If we don't as a group want to be in their event, that leaves the weekends of, 8th, 15th, or the 22nd (I don't think we want the weekend of the 1st, Labor day weekend, and we may have to contend with WKU football weekends. What's everybody's thoughts? I know it's a year out yet, but give me some feedback.

Chad

Edit: After I did some research on the MidAmerica Motor Works web site. I think their Effingham. IL event is always the 3rd week in September. If we don't want to schedule the same week as them, that would take out the weekend of the 15th.

15 year BG plant homecoming in 2018? Maybe??

When chatting with 05 granddaddy he said when you all went for the 10 yr it was still in the mid 80's. Does anyone know what the temp will be in mid October. Do we really want to be driving top down if it's cooler then 75. Yes I have been known to be crazy and drive top down when the temp was around 65. But that's just me. Im game for the 22nd. Unless we really want to join the BGACC group. The question then is do we really want to be that big. Someone said during the 10 yr event there was around 30 cars or so. How many cars is in the other group?

I think it would be great to get together as many XLR's as possible! Not sure we can count on a 20th anniversary gathering ...

The 10 year anniversary was not unwieldy with the number of cars involved. And it was plenty toasty! No top down worries. Bring a coat!

Chad -- thanks for working for on this. Dave Chrisley really helped us out last time, think he was responsible for rounding up XLR auction items (with a push from Bruce maybe?), so if he's willing to take us the BGAP show would probably be a good thing.

You never know about Mother Nature, but there in Ky in September should still be very nice, as for the 30 some cars at the 10 yr. that was probably the drive over to dinner which we had some Corvette owners join in the Police escort parade to restaurant that evening! I think also we should do the car show as it would be nice to show our XLR's at BG Corvette Plant for being assembled there. The Hilton Garden Inn was very nice place to stay and is central to every thing plus plenty of parking! We'd like to choose the weekend of 29th if that's the time they have the show! Again if any help is needed for planning please let me know! TY

I'm game for any date. I think my mom said she would go too and then combine the BG trip with Graceland. She is a big Elvis fan and then after the meeting/show we could head down and tour Graceland.

Jay must have heard about our get together next year. Except in our case, it is both the destination AND what we will be driving!

I'm think one of the things we can do on this trip is visit Mammoth Cave National Park. If you are 62 or older, get one of these National Parks Lifetime passes for $10 (plus $10 handling fee), before 8/28/2017! After that the lifetime Senior pass price goes up to $80. Here's the site:

America the Beautiful Passes (U.S. National Park Service)

Do it now!!

Chad

I have a disabled national parks pass. I think I can take up to 3 ppl total. That's 2 ppl and myself.

Yes that would be my XLR myself and my wife. We live in western Canada and think that that would be a great trip for us.

Since I missed the last one in 2013. Because I went out of the country. I'm definitely planing on attending this one. I already marked it on my phones calendar
