Welcome to the Cadillac XLR Forums!

2012 Texas Mile - Beeville, Tx 26-28 Oct.

Other Caddy racers at the event:

We had a large contingent of Cadillacs present:

Mark (the guy who rented the Caddy Shack and my host for the weekend) had over 700HP:

The only first gen CTS-V on the grid had twin turbo and meth injection.(176.5MPH)

The fastest CTS-V on the track - Texas Conda with a final run at 192.6:

The other 192MPH CTS-V was a flat black (vinyl wrap) coupe. I wish I'd have gotten some pics up close. Satin696 had one of the most impressive cars at the show.

The only CTS-V Wagon racing got one run cause he arrived late on Saturday and had to wait for the noon drivers meeting. His first run was a licensing run where he said he got to over 160, but backed it down to 150 at the mile. There was not enough time for him to make a second run on his one day entry so he's coming back in the Spring for all three days.

The Jake corvette was a couple rows away from Steve and I on Saturday.

Interestingly enough the above car and I were both in tech together so I had to take a few "Jake and Elwood" pics:

There were two other Land Speed Racing (LSR) crews that I met also at the Ohio Mile. These guys are serious about LSR and have taken that extra step to improve Aerodynamics. Notice the front air dam and the missing side mirrors.

This guy had a twin turbo 5.0 with nitrous:

The other ECTA LSR car you can tell was purpose-built, all motor, Small Block - his best this weekend was 179.5.

Lots of Vettes showed up for Sunday. Lots of Mustangs all weekend. Of course the fastest bikes were the Hayabusas. The worlds fastest woman was on one. Jennifer Robertson poses with the board. 243.6 mph makes her the fastest woman in the world through the standing mile on a bike.

The fastest Shelby. Congratulations to Van Collier of Revan Racing, Inc. on setting a new record for the fastest Ford Mustang into the world with a speed of 220.8mph in a 2007 Shelby GT500 Super Snake Convertible (w/ a removable hardtop)!

Fastest Viper, poor guy couldn't keep the car pointed down the track. Every time he shifted gears the back end got away from him. Best time for the weekend was 205.8MPH.

Fastest BMW. 223mph turbo bricK aka BMW e36:

Did I mention, the worlds fastest street legal XLR-V in the standing mile was Elwood. (let's see if D3 shows up next time :) Sorry couldn't resist it. Got the Race Director to sign off my log book to document the record. Paperwork will be forwarded to ECTA and SCTA for certification and the world records updated.

Hey gizmo q. How does that under hood Cadillac design hold out with the heat of the engine.

First: My congrat's to Ms. Robertson. Helluva accomplishment. How'd she do w/ stopping that missile, Giz? I still think the decelleration would be hairier than the acceleration part.

Second: For the trivia-oriented bike fans. She's on a '99 model; it came "out of the crate" unrestricted from the factory, w/ a stock 220 mph speedo. Some evident (and I'll wager a lot of not-so-evident) changes to the stock bike, include: aftermarket windscreen [I'd have to be convinced it's an improvement over the stock one, given its increased frontal area], taped-over ram air inlets [must have a modified airbox setup, maybe even a turbo], aftermarket front fender [she may be hurting herself w/ that mod, due to increased drag from the portion of the wheel above the axle that's not shielded from the airstream], aftermarket swing arm [possibly longer], gearing changes, removed rear fender [good idea], removed mirrors [when you're going that fast, objects in the mirror no longer matter... :chuckle ], and aftermarket exhaust [see turbo remark above]. I'd also bet she's done something internal to the stock engine to make it put out the kind of torque necessary to overcome the drag at that speed [about half again that of going 200 mph].

I had that identical bike for my first 'Busa -- same color/year, but mine was essentially stock. Wonderful machine. I'm on my 3rd one now, and plan to hang on to it.

Third, my hat's off to anyone who enters this kind of event. Had to be a wonderful experience, and I sure appreciate seeing the pic's and reading about it. Thanks to you guys for sharing, and a big "AWRIGHT" to Giz for setting the record. :worship:

Tim

Well, the worlds second fastest street legal XLR-V in the standing mile?

Hey gizmo q. How does that under hood Cadillac design hold out with the heat of the engine.

Still looks as good as the day I bought it from CARMotorsports. The material is better than OEM for heat resistance and flame retardant. The embroidery is a silver grey because I figured bright white would dull over time and I wanted it to last.

I can't say enough about AJ at CARMotorsports. He went the extra mile for me in the design and layout, coding the embroidery and wrapping the material. He emailed me at least weekly throughout the process and provided me exactly what I asked for and delivered the end product ahead of schedule.

The bottom speed is clearly the speed at the end of the mile - what is the first 131.3mph speed?

Half Mile. I was surprised that I was only going 23.3 MPH faster in the mile vs. the half mile. The V shifts into 5th gear at around 135 and the RPM drops to just over 5k and it's a slow climb from there. On the first run I thought that maybe I had let off the gas early, but not the case. Every run gained less than 25 MPH in the second half of the mile.

Oh gotcha... I did the Houston half-mile this past spring and ended up doing 134.1mph...

I wondered where I would have ended up on a full mile so I guess it would be in the 150's...

maybe next time I can make the time to head down to do the full mile

I'm almost embarrassed to post my timeslip. There was so much more to go, but it is what it is. Maybe next time I'll break 160 instead of the motor.

[B]Videos[/B]

Jack did a good job capturing Steve on the track, but it was so windy out you barely can hear the car as it goes by.
Steve and I did stage together once on Saturday so I just let my in-car cam run from his burnout and launch through mine.

My In-Car Vid (camera wouldn't focus but the sound is HOT!) Tires were cold. No burnout. So I eased it through 1st and 2nd at half throttle, then mashed it to the floor!

[B]Videos[/B]

Jack tried to capture my record breaking run, but our comms were flakey so he only caught me for a second. Hopefully some of the other Caddy folks captured it for me.

My In-car on the record run. I had the meth 100% and on for the whole time so it sounds like just another Sunday cruise down the highway.

Here's some of Jacks video footage of Steve going to and from Tech inspection on Thursday.

And one of Smokin-Cache (Jason) who was driving his wife's car, our host, HunterKiller (Mark) who rented the RV and then me returning from tech inspection.

Thanks to all of you for all the pics & updates - all really interesting on how different cars did.

Ms. Anderson definitely has my admiration - I can't imagine going 243 mph in a car, much less on a motorcycle.

169 mph in a Dodge Neon?

You XLR-V guys better keep an eye on your rear-view mirror for Dodge Neons! :chuckle

As I sit here and enjoy your videos I am reminded of the incredible speed an Alpine White XLR delivers. While I appreciate that black and red XLR-Vs struggle to reach 160 MPH in that 1 mile Texas test, yet I still have to tell people asking "how fast does a white XLR go" that I honestly don't know because the speedometer 'only goes up to 160 MPH'. Perhaps one day we will discover the top speed that the fastest XLRs (in an Alpine White color) ultimately deliver. Until then I find your videos most entertaining and amusing but not too instructive.....

Warmest of Regards! Steve

Steve, it would be great to have an Alpine White XLR join us at the Texas mile next year. There is a white Dodge Neon that needs to be put in his place!

Houston 1/2 mile

I just got back from running my XLR-V at the Houston half-mile today at Elliington airport...

I made 8 runs and all were between 139.3mph and 140.0mph! :blinzel: I was stunned how consistent I was... I would have had faster times but I simply couldn't keep the tires from spinning out in both first and second gears....

They're going to start doing a full mile this October so I look forward to seeing how fast my car can go at that distance... can't wait!
