Charleston, SC trip April '11 information

Charleston tours

I found this package and thought it would be a great way to experience a lot of Charleston. I will call them today. I would recommend the 1yr.Passport for $64.95 per person. It will give you more time to visit each place. The 2 day Passport for $44.95 must be used in 2 consecutive days.

Additional dining recommendations

For many regular visitors to Charleston, no visit is complete without dining at Hyman's Seafood. It is not as upscale as Hank's, but is a perennial favorite.

Also, for the best provider of the landmark "Mustard based" BBQ, one should visit Thomas Bessingers on Savannah Highway (17 South). The Bessinger family serves the barbeque with the distinctive mustard-based sauce that South Carolina is so well known for. The Bessinger recipe can be found at Melvin's (Mt. Pleasant and James Island), Maurices (Columbia) and Thomas Bessingers (Hwy 17 South). All 3 are very simular, but Thomas Bessinger wins the "Onion Ring" competition in my opinion. Once just a drive-in known as "Piggie Park", it now features a sit-down dining room that serves the full menu. I spent many hours hanging out there as a teen in my GTO!

The web site is impressive, hopefully the food as well.

My brother said he can put a beer tub in the parking lot and he also has a few other cool ideas for the event

Oh No! Don't say tub of beer! My diet's shot! :naughty:

Smokey Bones

Hi, this is Cory, GM of the N. Charleston Smokey Bones. My brother (ComfortZone) has mentioned my restaurant as a possible destination for the group while you are in Charleston. We would love to host a show for you, we have plenty of parking space and would be willing to provide a trophy for the winner. We have contacted the local Cadillac dealer and they are interested in being a part of the event. Let me know what day would be best for the group and we will put something together. Thanks, Cory.
